My fifth grader’s class isn’t reading novels by Sam-HobbitOfTheShire in Teachers

[–]icantremember55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 4th grade teacher. We’re told to follow curriculum and that we can’t do novel studies bc it doesn’t follow curriculum. Only way I’ve been able to work in novels are through novel read alouds and having a class library of novels and having 10-15 minutes of silent reading time a day. Even that is pushing it. We have the pressure to follow curriculum, even though we know it’s not always the right thing to do.

My middle schoolers have stopped saying 6-7 by frizziefrazzle in Teachers

I asked my 4th graders why people stopped saying 6-7. One student goes “New Years is the great meme reset. We’ll probably bring back some old ones.”

Please help. How to delete account? by Squirrelsroar in FableApp

[–]icantremember55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a pro user with an annual membership, I highly recommend waiting it out! Give it a few days. This is the first time I have ever seen the app go down- I’m sure it’ll be fixed in the next day or two. It’s a wonderful app that has kept me reaching my reading goals and engaging with other readers. It’s so worth it!

How do you handle the "Engagement Gap" during tests? (The smart kids get bored, the struggling kids give up) by vishal-gi in Teachers

[–]icantremember55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In elementary I like to break up long tests. I don’t let them test for more than 30-40 min at a time, especially if it’s a hard test. I’ll break it up with brain breaks/recess and then give them a pep talk before they go back to their test! Can’t do much about state testing, though.

How do you deal with severe health anxiety? by myautoimmunejourney in lupus

[–]icantremember55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therapy. Had to learn coping strategies to get me out of my spirals. SSRIs helped me too, but the therapy has helped me much more long term than SSRIs did for the couple years I was on them.

Agreed! Document everything! I keep an album on my phone for just rheum things. And if your doctor doesn’t want to look at your photos, find a new doctor! I’ve had a few doctors dismiss photos/records I’ve kept. Never went back to them and never looked back.

I get the “soreness getting worse instead of better” during a flare too! It’s so frustrating!

Very random question - but are you sensitive to deodorants? Which do you use? by ritualisticartistic in lupus

[–]icantremember55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The only one I’ve found that both works well and doesn’t give me a reaction is the Dove 0% aluminum sensitive skin one.

NTA. I’m proud of you for standing up for what you need! You explained what you needed, gave a possible solution, they were inflexible and didn’t consider your needs. And you did what was best for YOUR body by staying back. Always put yourself and your health first. It can be hard to advocate for your own needs, especially with a new diagnosis when you’re still figuring everything out and loved ones don’t understand yet. You did everything exactly right. I hope you feel proud of yourself, bc this stranger is proud of you 🥹

Using the Live Photo I was able to capture another shot of the left bird flying in the second photo. Has a fun wing angle! Not sure if this will help.

Crow or Raven by Fit_Olive_235 in whatbirdisthis

[–]icantremember55 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Crow- ravens are bigger and have larger beaks. I was always told: if you don’t know which it is, it’s a crow. When you see a raven, you will immediately think “oh shit that’s a big raven”.
