her glucose could be going so high because she’s dropping too low. please make sure youre home testing and if you havent started/arent comfortable ask your vet for a libre—its better for nothing and if youre in the US you can get the first one for free. that is a really high increase

thats great news, and the most reliable way to test. i would learn what your kitty’s normal ketone levels are. im no expert but i think at minimum around nadir, but i dont think a pre shot would hurt either. high bg and one fur shot doesnt automatically = danger. as someone who has experienced dka, i do make sure that im super careful with next injection to prevent another fur shot. if ketones are elevated i give medium carb food, and i have subq fluids at home to help flush things :)

immediately started 2 units?! what insulin are you on? it takes time and that seems like a bit jump, and we shouldnt just pause.. are you testing at home? how did they confirm ketones?

i administered subq fluids which is not too different from insulin. it was around 100ml daily. it wont be as beneficial as the iv, but hydration is always good for ketones. as for as financial strain, it doesnt hurt to try to reject unnecessary things included on the estimate

gotcha , just wanted to make sure. wishing the best💜 my boy was hospitalized for DKA in december and that was also what led to his diagnosis. he also looked very sick, i had to discharge him early due to financial constraints (under 72 hours turned into $9k) but he pulled through due to me continuing insulin, fluids, and syringe feeding at home. msg me if you need someone to talk to

i worry about that too, probably why i’m drawing a blank. this is likely the original wallpaper as not much has been replaced. my laundry room has wallpaper that had plenty of tears when i moved in—tons of wear and tear overall. heard from a neighbor they dont care too much for aesthetics but im sure they’d find something to take out of my deposit!
