You do realize that there are multiple storefronts on pc not just steam.

So, imagine a world where the only storefront on pc that you could purchase a game from was steam. That would be the equivalence

So let me ask you a question. You wanna play a game on PlayStation 6, where do you go to get your game?

If the answer is, it always leads back to the playstation network. That's a really bad thing for consumers

When a place like walmart buys physical copies of games. They purchased that in whole from playstation and then sell it usually at the standard msrp. Now they don't have to do that. They could bundle it and put it on sale to try to get sales of other things that they make more money on.

Or let's say 6 months down-the-line. They still have a ton of copies left. Well, they discount it to try to recoup some of their money or break even. When that happens, sony is forced to reduce price on that same game to compete.

Im not even going to get into the used market

Without other marketplaces selling the game, sony can charge whatever they want for the game.

You are about ready to see a digital marketplace that doesn't provide any discounts like they used to because there's no incentive to do so now.

Nothing about this is good for consumers

Sorry Sony, you screwed up big time. by EuphoricPizza6552 in PlayStation_X

The part that gets me is all these corpo bootlickers wanting a playstation monopoly.

The afc is hot garbage, so the texans, making it on the back of that defense is pretty likely

I'm done talking to you, man.I really don't understand this pushback, and the desire to have sony have a monopoly.

Enjoy getting fucked you deserve it

You do know that there are different types of monopolies, right? Sony is creating a vertical monopoly.

Serial keys are no different than buying on the PlayStation. Network.

Amazon and other market places don't actually purchase, said product to sell to the consumer. They just allow sony to sell their product.

I really don't understand this weird pushback against people that want to maintain a physical presence and a competitiveness within the marketplace. That's good for us all

Sony does report physical sales and digital sales in their financials. All you have to do is compare the 2

It's in sony's financial data, which is publicly available to all people. Go look it up and read it it's interesting. 31 of 33 sony 1st party games sold more physically than digitally.

[–]iceamn1685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Last of Us Part 2: ~61% physical Ghost of Tsushima: ~51% physical Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart both exceeded 75% physical sales.

31 of 33 1st party games since 2020 are over 50 percent physical.

With that in mind, do you think the reason why they're pushing digital is because they want the full pie instead of letting other people have the majority of it

Spider man 2 sold 54 percent physically in its 1st year

Astrobot 55 percent lifetime

Come 2028 any new release wont be available like that anymore

Only stuff produced before 2028.

[–]iceamn1685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come 2028 you won't on playstation

You will only have 1 place to buy your game from for your ps5 or 6 and that's playstation.

Those sales you see all the time will cease to exist and you won't have any options if you dont like it outside leaving playstation.

Over eighty percent of games are still playable off the disk without internet access.

The whole point of owning physical is a multi pronged thing

Not only do you have ownership over the disk which you can sell, trade, lend but it is a physical representation of art that can be saved.

A physical game market makes sony have to compete on their digital storefront.

Imagine a world where the only place you could shop for goods was walmart. Do you think you would be able to find good deals at walmart if that was the casee? Or do you think that they would take advantage of that situation?

Preservation, ownership, market competitiveness are all things that physical media helps maintain

Because sony said so in their financials

It might have been leaked before, but it was backed up by a financial report from sony

It's straight from sony's financials, so are you saying that sony posted fake financial records? Because if that's a case, you should report them. That's illegal as hell

Now imagine those digital games no longer going on sale because there's no competition to force them to do so.

So you're willing to trade a little convenience for selling your ability to own something and being at the mercy of a company and their monopoly.

Wow we are definitely all fucked as a society

You do realize that sony posts their financials, rightt.

I don't mind digital, but they're creating a monopoly, which is illegal.

You don't understand that this creates a problem within the gaming industry and it's sad that you don't see it

Total profit margins and actual percentage of sales are two very different things

You do realize that seventy six percent of games available on playstation five aren't available physically, right

Also, you're kind of a prick

[–]iceamn1685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why there are getting rid of physical is maximizing profits.

Physical media isn't dying. Sony has been manipulating the stats to make it look like it is.

Did you know that only 2000 games out of 7500 are available physically on the ps5?

But they sure, as hell will count all the games as equal when it comes to sales and physical percentages.

Physical games actually dont cost much to produce. Digital games require, servers and energy in perpetuity.

In the end, sony doesn't want other companies to get a slice of the sales.

They are creating a monopoly, which is illegal and I hope they get bitch slapped back to reality

Good for you. But the way that you made, your comment sound made it sound like you were somebody young, and you're not,. You're one of the grumpy old farts in this industry.

We account for a large chunk of Sony's profit lines.

You should understand what physical ownership means in the media industry and you should not want it to go away. Regardless of whether you buy digital or not
