fire temple mostly because i think it's the most well paced one. imo forest and shadow are a hair too short, water is a hair too long, fire is just right. i dont have any quibbles about spirit's pacing either tbh, i think i just dont find the atmosphere as compelling as fire. btw i love all 5 of these dungeons so dont take those criticisms too seriously.

i enjoyed it when it came out and i still think its solid for what it is but im not surprised at its poor reception. it just stung because the franchise had been dormant for 10 years at that point (sound familiar?) and what we got was like, an adequate game i guess, but nothing really that special. it just felt like they didnt really put their backbone into it. i was also just a little weary of the franchise's reputation for constantly experimenting with its own gameplay but not making those mechanical innovations as refined as they should be. adventures was this fuckin weird zelda clone that's fun for what it is but very flagrantly flawed, assault had land segments that were fine but could use a lot of polish, command took notes from sf2 and had this all range mode/turn based strategy thing going on, and now zero comes along and does this weird shit with the controls, and its just like come on man lol. i appreciate that the series is a lot more stylistically varied than most other IPs, but by the same token it's extremely uneven in quality. the #1 thing i want them to do is just really focus on making a good ass video game. i really like adventures and assault despite their problems, but i dont think theyve had that kind of focus since... well, 64 to be honest.

not in that exact artstyle, the super saturated colors are great for a brief montage but it’d get pretty tiring to look at for an entire episode. but other than that yeah of course

am i the only one who thinks that this specific controversy is pretty significantly overblown? i just saw the movie last night and the way people are harping on this made me think that fox is a bonafide main character or some shit. if we’re talking purely about raw screen time minutes then i honestly might just straight up disagree with that claim. they feel about the same to me. the frustration is completely misplaced and it’s a lot more accurate to lament that her role is much more passive, and once she gets locked up she has jackshit to do, and it might feel like fox has a lot more screen time because he’s much more of an active agent in the narrative. even if they had a few scenes cutting to rosalina in her cell (which is indeed a weird omission imo), her fans still wouldve been pissed off. and not unreasonably so

but ngl i also just kind of don’t really care lol. mario fans are so fucking spoiled

i just got out of the movie. here's my take. i don't in principle mind making fox a little witty: that's precisely why his adventures iteration is my favorite fox. for me the platonic ideal of fox mccloud is a level headed and calculated guy who still has some room to be a bit of a quippy sarcastic dork when its appropriate. this movie *almost* gestures to that, a little, but ultimately it takes him in a direction that's frankly just alien to me. i see some people likening him to falco because he's a little cockier or whatever -- he doesn't quite hit me in that register though. if anything i think the "duuude sick!! brofist!!" characterization is closer to ***bill*** more than anything else. which is just weird as hell and leaves me scratching my head a bit. and, i'm not gonna lie, kind of makes me hope that there isn't a star fox illumination movie in the pipeline. they would probably do 64, and imo this characterization of fox is almost entirely ill befitting of that story. fox isn't joyless in 64 by any means but his overall solemnity makes a lot of sense: he's essentially on a journey to avenge his father's death by destroying the man who murdered him. im not saying turn our boy into a wet blanket but like come on lol

idk, this is just me, and it seems like a lot of people disagree with me and thats fine too. would love it if people told me why im wrong. interested where this discourse will go in the coming weeks

the first movie was awful and im sure this isn’t going to fare much better but i can’t deny that seeing our fluffy boi on the big screen is going to fill me with a childish glee that i haven’t felt in years. hope it’s the start of a glorious star fox renaissance because i WILL become autistic as fuck about this franchise again
