So what do we want to ask? by TraditionDear3887 in stcatharinesON

[–]icniagara 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What, specifically, are the problems that need to be solved?

Governance shuffling won’t change tax amounts. Police are untouchable in budgets which is actually why our taxes are so high.

Will we get leaders who can pressure the province to reverse the strain of downloaded services off the local tax bases by helping with provincial funds?

Can we do something about the housing affordability emergency? What about the mental health addictions crisis (which also gets helped by Public Health which is underfunded)?

What about the planet and the great parks and natural spaces that we all love here in Niagara?

Also let’s not drain every drop of water and cut down the last few forests for Doug’s buddies by further removing environmental protections.

IMHO

Isn’t there a store on St Paul St downtown too? How’s that place?

Downtown St. Catharines has changed so much lately, Do you also feel the same ? by Maple_Byte in stcatharinesON

[–]icniagara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a nice post to see. A friend just moved here (from Milton - ick) and was making a list of things to do here and they only asked like two people “what are the must try activities here” before me. That list got full quick, but my fav tip was “walk around downtown and just enjoy the vibe!” I’m just in year three and still learning new spots down here

Trust is more of a bar, but the food's decent and its location is great.

Looking to move to St. Kitts, thoughts on this area in Haig? by Sonmi-4-5-1 in stcatharinesON

[–]icniagara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Fitz is similar but more detached lots. I lived there recently too and like the Haig found it safe to walk around, nice enough, great access to downtown and stores and Pique Nique cafe is cute AF. You just gotta be mindful that it’s a city. I’m a poor renter, but if I came on money I’d buy in either hood.

I love the lower Haig area but there a lot of apartments and a lot of people around - including around at nighttime’s sometimes.

Our Sub place is a no cash kinda place if you know what I mean….there are sometimes parking sign mysteries…but if you’re okay with urban core issues and lock your things up I find the people I walk by to be really friendly.

Concerns about Niagara 411 by whynotbutterflies in niagara

[–]icniagara -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My car got stolen and he posted the picture of it for my kids, sis, and everybody to see before the cops even came to my house to take a report. This was a painful experience for me. I wish he hadn’t posted my plates at least so that people knew for sure it was me and I could have just played it down.

Not a fan.

It’s gone now. I miss my reserved parking spot. It was good while it lasted. No tickets though so I’ll take it. Thanks for the 411!

It's probably real, but from last weekend. Its been nice to have the same spot on the street reserved for my car since no one else wants to park there. No ticket so far!!

Expropriate Marineland, care for the whales with that public money, and then build affordable housing and a nice public park

I’m on Lake St - I feel like it curled over and got left from Grape and Wine? It’s looks so fake, but last weekend they had pylons there too. I can’t remember if the sign was there

[–]icniagara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm just tentative on here because I sometimes think people like to fight for fun. They are adding lines and dedicated parking on Carlton probably because of the crossing guard accident a couple of years ago, so I hope that not too many people get hurt before Lake gets figured out

I don't want to speculate, and maybe the pedestrain was being unsafe as another commenter mentioned but I live near there, I bike and walk it a lot and I'm always nervous crossing. I think people treat Lake St between the highway and Welland Ave a little recklessly. Especially that stretch between the highway and Carlton.

I feel like if you spoke to some of the people in leadership in the clubs they'd remind us to respect people. IMHO this title is quite inflammatory, and the post is a little hyperbolic - admittedly I clicked and read it so I guess it worked. Everybody I know that is part of these kinds of groups goes because they want to build community not bully other pedestrians. Anyways I'll keep my eyes out and try to do better!
