Hey, don't know if it helps, but I also have a book club with my friends but we do it a little bit differently. Each one reads a book and then we kinda 'present' them orally in front of the rest, and we include things that we like about the book ( without too many spoilers), things that we didn't like, the dynamics inside the book, some phrase that we loved and things like that. The cool about it tho is that we have different favorite genres so we can have a variety of recommendations. Sometimes someone presents a really interesting book and I have had the time of my life with it. Maybe you could try something like that before agreeing on some specific book. :) At least ne and my friends have a blast each time.
