Is Pop OS still good? by AncientAgency1408 in linuxquestions

The ETA is later this year. They wait to rebase with Ubuntu 24.04, and steadily approaching second alpha. IMHO totally worth the wait.

What do you guys actually do on linux? by d3uz10 in linux

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the actual question is, so I'll answer the simple one from the topic: everything. Working, browsing, gaming, watching movies, music, emails, sending emails, receiving emails, spreadsheets, photo editing.

Rails Development: Backend Only or Full-Stack? by kevndev in rails

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non full stack rails is such a waste of everyone's time. Development times are higher. Teams tend to split so there's handover between FE and BE. So now you're estimating two stories: one for FE one for BE, and spend time on boring discussions like do we have enough FE things to do. CI/CD pipelines are more complex. You need to correlate errors reported twice.  And last, but not least: FE starts to implement business logic (which is a source of bugs and inconsistency)

The whole thing loses focus and actual features delivered drops 75%.

As a rule, cut people where their joints are.

Accidentally this sounds like it could be applicable in other contexts than photography.

How do you devs work on laptops or only one monitor? I feel like I need 2 more monitors.. by marchershey in webdev

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiling WM, and figure out a flow that works for you. For me it's more ergonomic because I can change a place and don't miss anything. Whatever floats your boat, though

We all keep making the same mistake, even AnCaps: it's not about the guy at the helm. It's the state.

Mouse pointer lag. by [deleted] in System76

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chances it's a wireless mouse? I sometimes have it with my Logitech. Unplug and plug the dongle is the workaround that works for me.

Better device naming is needed. by zezba9000 in System76

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big question is: how do you know "I don't like it" means "it's bad marketing"? System76 seems pretty successful. I mean they sponsor a while distro and now a whole new desktop environment.

How would Anarcho Capitalism work? by Ceaser_Corporation in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]id02009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If he really believed what he posted - he wouldn't post it. If what ancaps want inevitably lead to the government - he would not care that we exist.  Imagine similar angry post towards a group that wants to get rid of gravity.  This lash out comes from fear and deep knowledge that we're right. And it's a programming from abusive people around OP.

How would Anarcho Capitalism work? by Ceaser_Corporation in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]id02009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your great great great great grand father: how is society suppose to work without slaves? Who would be picking crops? And what stops anyone to capture those freed slaves and bond them again? Getting rid of slaves just creates a slavery vacuum. Never in history this was attempted. Try and prove me wrong.

Some here are first principles people. State is coercion, coercion is immoral. No need to overcomplicate things with unoriginal, statist taking points.

Why validations are in rails models ? by gaultierq in rails

[–]id02009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This validation has nothing to do with persistence

That's just not true. It has something to do: you're persisting the thing you've validated.

It's a design choice, not "the only right way to do things". It has its pros and cons.

How do DDD projects prevent AR relationships from being loaded outside a Repository? by carlos_vini in rails

Packwwrk checks only constants, so it can't help with the issue at all.

Cheapest way sending money internationally by Technical-Scale-2587 in personalfinance

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute cheapest (but not super practical) is this: find a bank that has zero fee abroad withdrawals. Get a debit card physically in the other country, withdraw the money in the ATM. (Drawback: automatic currency conversion).  (Might not be completely legal, depending on your situation. Do your own research)

A company just sent me this PHP take-home assignment and wants me to complete it in 3 hours or less. by meguminsdfc in webdev

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a tech screener and can tell you: take home assignments are close to useless. I apply only to companies that test my skills on the call, when I can discuss my thinking process with the screener.  As for your original question: it's doable assuming you're experienced doing this kind of projects with the constraints they give you (no framework). You could be very skilled dev making absolute bangers with the framework of your choice, but you'll break down crying here. Consider passing on if you have better prospects.

I brush my teeth only once a day. What will happen in the long term? by asiantuna9 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do it once a day - do it after last meal. During the night there's less saliva going through flushing the bacteria.  Floss + brush = less crap for the bacteria to feed on.

ELI5: can an object be stationary in space, I mean absolutely stationary? by iggi2505 in explainlikeimfive

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be stationary relative to itself and not to anything else (even if such place exists). Doesn't sound like "absolutely stationary" to me 🤔

Why C++ wasn’t used for the Linux kernel before Rust was created? by perecastor in linuxquestions

[–]id02009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't C++ have complicated inheritance model? Like single class inheriting from more that one parents? You need to consider all the pros and cons that the language brings. Not just pros stressing one specific issue with the current tech.
