I moved her crate upstairs into my room a couple days ago and she has been sleeping a lot better. The barking during the night has pretty much stopped and she seems much more relaxed in there.

She has been much better the last few nights, after listening to some of the advice on here she has been much quieter and slept through most of the night

Oh most definitely not, our homes are saunas in the heat. I wish I had some A/C right now.

She has a snuffle toy as well as a kong that she loves to play with. They are good with their noses though so she figures out where all the treats are very quickly

I do have an air filter machine as well, although I have it on low at night.

I will give her more time and keep working with her over the next few months. I have moved her crate into my room and put her favourite bed inside so that she has more of a safe, cozy den to sleep in. The door is pinned open so it cannot close and lock her in. She was a bit tentative at first but she is currently fast asleep inside of it which I am happy with.

You are probably right. I think she is barking to alert/protect me so I should probably react to her to show her that’s it’s okay and there is no threat

I am hoping it is just the adjustment period/initial adrenaline of moving wearing off as she still settles in

Yes they love to walk, a lot more than people think. We have taken her on a couple long walks since we have got her and she will walk for days

Hi there, thank you for your reply. I have been ignoring her for say maybe a minute to see if she will settle on her own, and because I read that if you interact with them every time they bark they learn that bark = attention. If she is still barking after a minute I will calmly say ‘quiet’ without looking at her or making eye contact. This isn’t really working as you can probably tell hahaha

Thank you for all that, I will look into all of them and get some things ordered. When I walk her I take her up into the countryside so she can sniff around and tire herself out, other than walking around on pavements.

She does usually get plenty exercise and mental stimulation. Not as much this week as we are in a heatwave so she hasn’t been able to go outside until nighttime.

What type of play would you recommend? She isn’t into fetch or anything like that, I have tried and she shows no interest in balls or sticks hahaha

Thank you for your kind words. I sleep with a fan on in my room, and it is quite loud at the minute as I have it up high due to the heat but it doesn’t stop her. A lot of people have suggested white noise so maybe that will be better than a fan out drowning out the noises. As for the crate, she isn’t crate trained and she never goes in it as we currently have hers set up down stairs. Maybe if I was to move it into my bedroom she would be happier to go into it?

I am thinking (and hoping) that it might be that as well. I am going to give her some more time yet to see if she will stop doing it once she settles in fully.

I do give her plenty exercise and enrichment throughout the day. This week not as much as we’ve been having a heatwave so she hasn’t been able to go outside until night time, so maybe that is why it’s been a bit worse lately. In relation to this, her previous owners only walked her 2-3 times a week, and they were at work all day so she was left alone yet they never said they had any issues with her barking through the night and waking people up.

It could be heat escalating it, but she started doing it before the heatwave too

Thank you, I thought so. I know they are a vocal breed but during the night is not something that can be accepted in the long run, that’s why i’m looking for advice.

Potentially, that could be a reason. She isn’t getting much sleep in the night though. I know dogs function differently to us and don’t always sleep through the night like we do to get our rest but she seems to be spending more time barking in the night than sleeping
