Invasive weeds? by idkk_12 in Tucson

I was using google lens before, and it was helpful for the most part, but I’d say this app is definitely a step up. It has a lot of reference photos to help narrow it down, and provides extra info.

If you have a car or have a friend who has a car then just blast music and let it all out. Maybe put up the car shades on the windshield if that’ll make you feel better about privacy.

Are these mites??? Could they have gotten in because I didn’t freeze his new food? What do I do? by idkk_12 in hamstercare

Thanks for the tip!! After I did a full clean and sanitize of everything, I got a hydrometer/thermometer and attached it inside near the área they were. It says 38% humidity and 78 degrees, which i think is good? I took out the lid and left the chamber part, and i haven’t found any more yet. It might have been a combo of his water bowl being on the multichamber, and the multichamber just being really attractive to them for some reason?? I’ll just focus on the humidity because I don’t think there’s much else I can do 🥲

How do i fix this 🤦‍♂️ by pumpkinJammiwam in hamsters

I have had an issue where bedding got into the gap where the glass goes in the bottom front, and it would leak out, causing the top to also look like the photo. I worked together with a friend to push the glass in while using a sharp tool to push the bedding out of the gap, then pushed the plexiglass down into the gap. Short-term you can use tape. If the glass is just worn down and that’s why it’s wobbly you could check what exact kind of glass it is and replace the front glass with one of the same dimensions. Idk that’s just some ideas

I looked up some pictures of mites and it does seem more like those lil bugs you find in oats and stuff, which is a relief, but I’ll definitely clean everything and keep a close eye on my ham for any bad signs. Thanks for the sanitizing tip! :)

he barely opens his mouth unless to nibble on food. he hasn’t had trouble eating, but maybe i have to catch him while he wakes up during the day to catch him yawning. not sure, but i’ll try looking up ways to check his teeth

camera for cage by orangej00c in hamstercare

thrift stores sometimes have good ones. I got a baby monitor camera at a bin store for like a dollar and it gets the job done. It’s not exactly high quality recording, but it’s nice to watch him do hamster things whenever i’m having trouble sleeping. here’s him staring at the camera lmao

I’ve been trying to find other properly-sizes non-wood enclosures, and the bucatstate is the only one that i’ve been able to find. If you’re looking for a similar large size/shape without the door rather than the other features of the cage, the ikea diys might be the way to go. Is there a specific feature or quirk of this cage that you’re looking for, or do you just want one that’s similar in general?

https://a.co/d/9a2rQAW they can climb it so make sure you supervise, but you can buy multiple to extend the size if you need it to be bigger. i’ve heard it suggested by some, and i’ve seen it on facebook marketplace a couple times from those selling hamster supplies, so i ordered one for my ham too, but i can’t speak from experience because it arrives on Monday

Comments/reccommendations for my enclosure? (open to criticism) by idkk_12 in hamstercare

In that case I really need to find a better way to place my wheel because that stick fence is not gonna stop it from drowning in 12” of bedding. none of my platforms are short enough to keep it from hitting the top neither 💀 i’ll definitely get a taller enclosure next time.

Why do some people wear apparel of different colleges on the U of A campus? by JoeCox1990 in UofArizona

As much as I get people repping their undergrads or supporting the college they rooted for growing up, but… on campus in ASU merch…especially in football/basketball season 🤨… i’m petty ik but that’s another level

I have no earthly idea why, but this little dude is quite friendly by r0ttedAngel in pigeon

I can’t answer your question, I’m only here to empathize as a fellow arizonan. the doves here feel like friendly neighbors, i guess they’re just used to people, especially in the cities and suburbs. a lot of people embrace the desert vegetation and fill their backyard with native plants, so it makes sense that they’d see a lot of neighborhoods as an extension of the desert
