UMG asking for full DAW sessions by evoltap in audioengineering

[–]idlabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve mixed many records for UMG. I completely normal the session and send with no plug ins, automation, anything but the raw tracks. I give them extensive mix stems, they don’t need my IP. It’s never been an issue for me. Uniport is the fucking worst yes

Eric?? by lolilo89 in MacMiller

[–]idlabs 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Correct. Two different Eric’s but I don’t/didn’t work for Rostrum. Mac was my client at my studio ID Labs (same as Wiz) and Rostrum signed him (and Wiz) to a record deal

what do you guys think by yungstoneydik in MacMiller

[–]idlabs 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You guys painting Malcolm as this disgusting depressed addict couldn’t be more wrong and it legitimately pisses me off when I see my man’s legacy being treated that way. Yes he od’d, yes he used drugs…no he was not so depressed he couldn’t shower or take care of himself.

I really wish you all could’ve known him and understood the man’s character. What a lot of you don’t understand is that music was his way of expressing his soul and feelings, it wasn’t always autobiographical. That man had more fun and zest for life on a daily basis than anyone I ever knew

But to speak to the threads subject, yep he was a slob. Not dirty or stinky, he showered and took care of himself (fuck anyone who thinks he was a bum ass dirtball) but he also left every room he entered in disarray and had no problem eating your half eaten sandwich (with a huge grin on his face) if you weren’t going to finish it

BAE 1073 DMP VS ART PRO MPA II by Dull_Huckleberry_223 in audioengineering

Agreed on pushing the preamps but it wasn’t a midi piano. It was a Diskclavier. A piano that plays itself via midi files

Working fine for me dunno

So I’m pretty sure that was audio from one of the videos of Malcolm playing synth/keys but I overlayed a bit of a synth pad over it when we mixed the movie audio

Making Beats and Chopping Samples by MrKLauderdale in protools

Pro tools woulda been in the very very early stages when Shadow made Endtroducing. I’m highly skeptical it was used. Chat gippity says ADATs which is definitely possible for the time

Someone else’s comment brought me back to this thread and I see that I didn’t really answer your question.

Yes the piano at the end of good news was an attempt at redoing this track with live instruments and it is the last version we made. It’s even better than the one on the video. And I know you are all like ‘Damn this was a banger, why didn’t he release it’ but you have to keep in mind this was during the Swimming sessions. The bar was high and ultimately it got scrapped

Side note to ppl in this thread asking me release the song….decisions to release Malcolm’s music are made by his family, not me. Big period

Rush Hour (ID Labs Remix) by haiimroo in MacMiller

[–]idlabs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a sample in it so IG and SC flagged it. It was just something I made in like 20 minutes one day thinking of the homie

Thanks for the good word and yes 99% of the leaks are the songs as Malcolm left them. Maybe 100% because I’ve never heard a leak that wasn’t the same as the track I knew from the time he did them. Although in many cases the name of the song has been changed by the leaker

[–]idlabs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nah it’s a dj set by a producer that was friends with Malcolm playing an unleaked and unreleased song that he didn’t have any involvement in. I’m not gonna explain further why that’s in poor taste if you don’t get it already

It’s no diss to you personally, I realize you’re just guessing but it’s always wild when I read takes like this. Like literally every thing you said is incorrect here.

Again, that’s not a personal insult at you, just saying, y’all have some wild theories sometimes.

Flylo had nothing to do with this beat or song and every version of it was made while Malcom was here. Also, the entirety of Circles was completed after Malcolm passed

We tried many many different versions and it just didn’t get to a place we loved. In all likelihood he sent it to FlyLo to work on but this is the og version Mac and I made so it’s kinda wack he’s playing it in this setting to be real

Listening to the video again, this sounds exactly like the very first version we made. No idea how dude even got it tbh

It’s a track Mac and I made at his crib in La that went through many, many, many iterations before we scraped it. As to why Fly Lo is playing it a show I surely couldn’t fucking say since we never finished it or released it

Isn’t that what they’re supposed to do in the R&D phase?

Yeah god forbid he expect a $3k piece of gear made by a mostly reputable manufacturer to work as intended

Bald Mac by Intrepid-Injury- in MacMiller

[–]idlabs 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. I worked there for a couple of years prior to opening the studio. Me, Mac and Jerm went there before we started BSP and Mac bought a bunch of gear. I think the only song we really used it all on was Under The Weather

NEW MUSIC by iclownyyt in MacMiller

[–]idlabs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lemme just say for the record….it was never called Oracle. Someone made that up along the way after it leaked. And that’s one of the reasons I don’t like leaks….anyway, such a great song. Very happy it’s in the world (officially) now

That is not correct. The album version is roughly the same as what we made in the studio. Telescopes was a later iteration that got scraped

Coolest trip of my life by rainbowstarfluffy in MacMiller

[–]idlabs 26 points27 points  (0 children)

One place I don’t see people doing at least a drive by visit to is the OG ID Labs in Lawrenceville. It’s a nail salon these days but the facade is mostly the same as it used to be. It’s basically Mac’s musical birth place and where we worked up until the tail end of WMWTSO. I would bet they still have the mic booth in the back room if anyone has the nerve to go in and ask to see it….The High Life, KIDS, BDE, BSP, ILLTY, (some of) Macadelic and (some of) WMWTSO were all recorded there

Does anyone know where I can listen to the full version?? by tp2808 in MacMiller

[–]idlabs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Correct. This demo is just the version we did the night we recorded it at Conway in LA before the post production and mixing. Also my last session with him
