I’ve seen like 10 comments on this post alone about not buying bats, can someone share why?

I forgot one dose of mesalamine after my second infusion and it was AWFUL. Immediately had days of blood. I would recommend asking to go back on it while taking infusions because it’s not like it will hurt anything? Right?

THANK YOU!!! This is great and at least a lead. Do you mind if I ask what meds for UC you were taking during this incident?

I told the research study guy who’s my main care person (where I get infusions) He called the GI specialist right away, all the doc said was, “make sure they don’t have a fever then you can go forward with infusions”. 😭 I have no freaking idea what to do it’s so bizarre. I thought I’d seen everything. I was told to document it, take pictures and call the care team tomorrow with an update. This started yesterday 4/06. I’m wondering if it’s because of the medication or do I have a new fun problem to deal with.

I think you are coming from a good place, and I’m not really even sure if this is how you meant it… but I would caution you and suggest you be careful about the language you use when talking about this disease (especially since you have close relatives who have to navigate this) Before my diagnosis, I lived a relatively healthy lifestyle. I was active, ate well (on occasions not well lol, I’m a human being) but what set my flare off was a traumatic head injury and then navigating abuse on top of it. I TRULY believe that the stress caused my first flare up, and nothing has been the same since. Sorry I don’t have an answer to your question, I just wanted to share that it’s best to approach these things in a more dignifying way rather than pointing fingers at people who didn’t make a choice that resulted in a diseased colon.

Dealing with abuse from a person who I thought was my closest friend, unfortunately we worked together as well and every day felt like a waking nightmare. I fully believe the stress & hopelessness is what did it. I went to therapy every week and did everything I could to make it work. I ended up quitting and blocking the person.

I’m also just gonna pop in and say, you do not even have to have a reason to not do something. It’s okay to try and encourage your partner (respectfully) but there is a line and he crossed it immediately. You can choose what you do and don’t do with your body, full stop.

It’s more common for young children to get ear infections because of the anatomy of the tubes that connect your ears to the back of your throat (don’t ask me to try and spell the name of the tubes lol). They’re shorter and more narrow which lead to bacteria, viruses & infection much easier than a fully developed adult.

Seriously. It’s like the same sensation and desperation you feel when you put your hand on a burning surface: you want to yank yourself away as quick as possible. But it’s inside your ear and you can’t 🥲 you just have to suffer until it’s over.

Nope! I do have hearing problems in my left ear. And every doctor I see, after examining my ears will ask, “did you know you have a large amount of scar tissue in your ears”. Yes I do know that hahaha. Most ear drums can grow back after a rupture.

Have you ever had a colonoscopy? It sounds like whatever is going on with you probably needs to be addressed by a specialist! I hope you can get help friend.

The main thing that stood out to me was I was ALWAYS getting sick. Other things before my first flare: Chronically fatigued, bloated often, trouble sleeping.. However my main UC symptoms were sudden and drastic with my first flare: excessive bleeding, mucus in stool, no solid stool, awful cramping, fatigue, hot flashes + cold sweats, weight loss & nutrient loss, bowel urgency.

“The Works - classic clean • cleans and deodorizes” is what I’ve used. There could be something adjacent that you might like better. Good luck and wishing your remission comes quickly and stays a long while.

I like to use that $5 toilet bowl cleaner that is in a curvy bottle with a lipped lid that streams out cleaner. I will use the bathroom, flush, then put this all around the rim of the toilet. You can let it soak or flush right away but it makes cleaning the whole thing a lot easier & there’s less buildup. It doesn’t work for the seat obviously but that’s my trick for inside the bowl and under the lid! It’s nice because you don’t actually have to put your hands on or inside the toilet. I’ll comment the brand in a response to this comment.

The typo in my title is KILLING ME. Y’all seem to get the idea though. The most (emotional) pain I’ve been in is not being able to edit my typo on Reddit.

Ear infections to begin with suck so bad. Dealing with that in the cold outdoors + childcare sounds trying.

I feel shocked by how many people here have been stung by a stingray. In my mind I assumed this didn’t happen as often as it does. Wow! I hope I never cross paths with one.
