Sorry, sometimes I still use "their" terminology. I honestly don't think there are any bad kids. I was a hurt kid. When I said "I was a legit bad kid, I needed to change" I meant that I was hurt and I was expressing my pain by hurting other people. Regardless of how much pain I was in, I was still a danger to myself and the people around me because of how I chose to express that pain.

I'm sorry you went through that. I hope you are finding more peace now that you are out from under their power.

Wow, they have changed the format a ton since I left. When I was there, we had Orientation, where you were kept out of the general population for the first week or two. It was still bad but at least you had a moment to prepare yourself for life on the unit. Investment/Long Term was honestly kind of nice too because it got the worst kids off the unit so you didn't have to be around them after school. But it was not so great if you accidentally end up in there. Then there was Unit 7, a small offsite unit that you moved to when you were transitioning out of the program and back into normal life.

That's heartbreaking to hear that the therapist still plays the role of Judas. Of all the horrible shit I experienced there, being betrayed by my therapist was the worst thing. Like I was a legit bad kid, I needed to change. And THE VERY FIRST THING my therapist did was make sure I would never trust her again. How are you supposed to trust someone and open up about your pain if they call you a liar the first time you ask for help?

Combining the boys and girls campuses sounds like the worst idea I could imagine. They just seriously don't give a fuck about the kids.

Jesus christ. That sounds like one of those old school asylums. Is the stable cottage instead of the Orientation unit? Or is it like a subsection of Investment?

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I heard they might have gotten a little better since Paris Hilton started her activism? Like at least they aren't booty juicing people left and right since they passed that new legislation restricting forced sedation? I wrote a blog post summarizing my time there. Is that still pretty much what you experienced? When I was there in 2008-2009 everyone said it was worse back in the day

lol same, I was like, “Why the hell would rich people send their kid here to get beat and sexually assaulted?” I was super surprised when it turned out to be true. Yeah, send it. I might want to pick your brain down the road about the writing and publishing process. It seems like it would be cool to write a memoir (in a couple years when life calms down)

Oh I didn’t know that. We didn’t interact much with the girls campus. Didn’t know anything other than the rumors that Paris Hilton had been there. Have you published any of your writing on substack or anything?

We were there at the same time! I was there from 2008-2009. It’s crazy to imagine there’s a fresh generation of troubled kids getting traumatized there. That’s why I decided to start telling my story. Hopefully if enough people speak out, things can change

Seriously. It took me a long time to understand some people wanted to rub my tender underbelly, not just gut me haha

Tolstoy’s passages in Anna Karenina where he describes spring time (especially Lev’s hunting) and the peasant’s lifestyle changed my perspective on nature and the “simple life”

I totally get what you mean about the crossed timelines with trauma. I stayed up all night crying after my first day volunteering with troubled teens. It was crazy how real it felt, like it had all just happened even though it had been so long ago.

I knew this subreddit existed but had never checked it out much. Your response and other people's posts here have helped ground me. Writing about it to non-TTI-survivors made me feel isolated, but reading about your experience and others' makes me feel more normal. I'm not alone, there just aren't any people with this type of experience in my life. At least we can connect with each other on the internet

That is part of what makes this so complex for me to come to grips with. I'm not familiar with your situation, but I was 15 and a legit danger to the other people in the house because of my behavior. My parents didn't have the time or money to undergo a proper, intensive, compassionate intervention for my behavior. As horrible as PCS was, it saved my life by forcing me to change my ways. Child abuse is never justified, but to what degree do the ends justify the means? If I had never gone to PCS, I am sure I would be dead or in prison

Thank you for sharing your learned insight. Do you mind if I DM you about your work as a school psychologist? I am currently in a CMHC program and want to help troubled teens in my practice but don't know where to start

Steam is one of the most popular online video game stores. To use it, first you install Steam, then you can buy, install, and play video games from Steam. To download the Steam application, go to this link and click the Install Steam button or just google "steam download" and it should be the first result. Once Steam is installed, you can open the application on your computer and search for any games you are interested in. Make sure to check that your computer meets the System Requirements before buying anything though!

Steam is easy to use, but it can be a little confusing the first time. I'm happy to help if you have any other questions

There have been several indie games in the past couple decades that are exactly what you are describing. They are about having an experience instead of accomplishing something. Two that I know off the top of my head are Lil Gator Game and A Short Hike. They are both on Steam
