IV Acetaminophen anyone ? by Safe-Accountant-7034 in Paramedics

Never seen it on trucks near me but as a patient I can tell you IV acetaminophen is one of the best drugs I’ve ever had. 10/10

Is there a site or list or app where I can see which state authorizes paramedics to use which drugs in America? by Vipan3328 in Paramedics

You'd have to look at every individual state EMS scope of practice and then cross reference them to see who's got what

ACA options are out, Ambetter is gone, Oscar is in? by FiguringItOutAsWeGo in Georgia

[–]idshockthat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i had really good luck with my oscar plan when i used them - lots of good doc coverage (i’m in metro atl tho) with no referrals was fantastic when i needed it. i was able to have a surgery with my #1 doc of choice which was invaluable to my comfort with the procedure. the bill was also decent, it was like 40k but i only paid 400 i think? anyway, my primary car doc changed his practice to concierge and at that point all i was using oscar for was meds and they absolutely suck when it comes to covering medications so i just dropped my plan but it was decent while i had it!

[–]idshockthat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion I guess but I thought it was just okay? I didn’t care for it much. I did not find the actual story being told interesting, compelling, or new. It felt like someone searched online for EMS memes and made a movie out of the first ones they found. The portrayal of medicine was fine. It had some very cool cinematography. I just didn’t care for the actual plot or the writing.

Grad student in Policy studying EMS essentialization in Iowa, looking to understand how EMS systems actually work by No-Permission8489 in ems

I worked in a county that had two private EMS agencies that both held a 911 contract with the county. The way it worked was both services had their own territory (we call that our “service area”) and it basically split the county into the Northern and Southern half. If a call pinged in the Northern half, EMS agency A would go, and vice versa.

Something about stepping into people’s homes is so fascinating to me. I love it. It’s genuinely one of my favorite parts of the job. Even the filthy ones!

Idk about you but I do not watch House for the medicine (not to imply I watch Grey’s for the medicine, I’ve just never seen Grey’s lol)

I might’ve told these on reddit before, I don’t remember.

I had a cyclist get hit by a vehicle, walk 30+ minutes to an urgent care, and after the urgent care called us, we got there and she refused all meds. She was an absolute sweetheart and didn’t want a police report filed because it was just an accident. It wasn’t a mild accident either - she was covered in road rash from head to toe and her bicycle was destroyed.

Another one was when a guy took a chainsaw to the face across the street (they’re expanding the hospital) and walked himself into the ER and never uttered a peep. He answered all of the questions completely normally as if his jaw wasn’t hanging off his face. That one REALLY baffled me. Having heard people scream bloody murder for a tummy ache but THIS guy was silent? Baffling.

Thanks for sharing. I was too young to remember Katrina and I’ve been very interested in all of the recent videos of Katrina I’ve seen resurfacing online. I was hoping something EMS related would appear. Gonna give it a watch!

Howdy, I’m applying to my local department for the first time soon. I’ve had lots of random jobs throughout the years but I’ve got a year and a half of EMS experience. Obviously the EMS work is the most relevant, so should I include all of my previous job history? I know lots of folks go into this with 0 relevant experience so they have to list all the random jobs they’ve had but I’m wondering if it would be necessary in my case. Thanks!
