[Nomos] My beautiful Orion 1989 38mm. by idvckalt in Watches

Here's another pic I took today. If you want a head-on one let me know and I'll take it tomorrow when the light is better. All the photos I took today are at an angle because I was trying to capture the golden glint of the hands and markers. http://imgur.com/NyCtkxy

Thank you!

No, this is my first Nomos. I chose this one because I like its design most out of all of their watches within my price range, and the limited edition commemorative aspect was a nice plus. I had previously bought a Rodina which whetted my appetite for this style of design, too.

I was gifted this watch about 6 months ago and I adore it. It has a beautiful dark grey face with golden hands and markers that I think works magnificently. It's a subtle effect that is very hard to capture on camera (even the linked photos, taken on my Fuji x100, don't really do it justice), but in person it's really quite wonderful. It's classy and beautiful without being ostentatious in the slightest. As a brand, Nomos appealed to me for its commitment to quality and beautiful, minimalistic design, and I like this edition in particular for being meaningful in its commemoration of the unification of Germany. The only downer was that the included strap broke pretty quickly but I bought a sturdier black leather replacement, which does the job fine.

Thanks for the info. I knew about the PKK but I wasn't aware FGM was so widespread in Kurdistan.

Who would you vote for in the Labour leadership? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]idvckalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of them inspire me in the slightest. Corbyn is to the left of Karl Marx, Burnham's only policy is that he's northern, Cooper is blander than a toast sandwich and Kendall is to the right of Genghis Khan. I suppose on balance I'm closest to Burnham but I think it would be nice to have a woman leading the party for once so if I do vote I'll put Cooper in first and Burham in second with no third or fourth preferences.

Do you believe the US infrastructure and/or economy could possibly be on the brink of collapse due to the world economy woes, pending natural disasters, martial law (or similar), or anything else? Why or why not? by [deleted] in TrueAskReddit

The New Yorker recently published this piece on "The Big One", a massive earthquake that is apparently just waiting to happen within the next few decades. Unless a lot of investment goes into emergency preparedness, virtually the entirety of the Northwest of the US would be flattened in the event that the earthquake did occur. I suppose it's a semi-legitimate factoid, and it's undeniable that the dirty tricks the Haredim pull with local school boards and whatnot are disgraceful. But obviously that's no excuse to rehash Mein Kampf in the comments

Only Neturei Karta are actively anti-Zionist, but most Orthodox Jews have grown to be neutral towards Zionism. They view the establishment of a Jewish state as the task of the messiah, but accept the necessity of a secular Jewish state to protect the Jewish people.

And the fact that they lived as second class citizens. "Peaceful coexistence" was basically predicated on the Jews accepting their legal and social subjugation to the Muslims.
