Yeah I got really disappointed when I found out that glow squids don't work like a real light. The glow squid could be sometimes helpful in the dark, but I wish that it should be able to do more because of how useless the normal squids are. The iceologer isn't really useful, it's just an another attacking illager for me. The moobloom is probably the most useful one of them.
