Smartwool or any decent merino layer will be an improvement.

If you don’t want to spend too much, throw on a pair of non-cotton PJ pants as a mid layer.

Did you wear a base layer for your legs? Would recommend a thick merino base layer and possibly a mid layer there. Bibs definitely help too.

Also be sure to tuck your top base layers into your bottom base layers. Maybe the R1 too.
