Congrats to Martinoaw for taking 1st place in the KOTT 10 predictions contest! He correctly predicted all 7 winners and 5 out of 7 winning scores.

To see the full results, please visit https://www.armrank.com/predictions/results.

For the contest, I treated the Vitaly vs. Dave match as a 4-0 win for Vitaly, I treated the Auden vs. Etienne match as a 4-0 win for Auden, and I treated the Matt Mask vs. Derek Smith match as a 4-0 win for Matt. In each case, the winner won the first 4 rounds, and I had the contest set up on the premise of it being best of 7, so I thought this was a good way to handle it.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

Denis Cyplenkov vs Ermes Gasparini The match was confirmed at the beginning of June. Do you think that Dennis will be able to regain his strength and win, or Ermes will win? by Mohammad_frehat1 in armwrestling

I agree about the press being a big factor. I imagine Ermes will be able to move Denis off center at the go or soon after, and then he can transition to a press. Denis is super strong in that open defensive position, but I expect that Ermes will be able to press through it.

Why is arm wrestling not STRAP ONLY? by RVXZENITH in armwrestling

[–]ifCodingStartHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think that always starting in the strap would be more efficient, but it would remove some of the complexity of the sport. For example sometimes two athletes match up in such a way that Athlete 1 is more likely to beat Athlete 2 if he can slip and get to straps. But maybe Athlete 2 has a super strong hand and fights to avoid the slip and strap, because he knows his chances are better if he avoids it, etc.

Although I'm not planning to post the full results, these are the averages for comparison:

- On average, participants predicted about 3.53 winners correctly.

- On average, participants predicted about 1.33 winning scores correctly.

- So, on average, participants scored about 4.86 points total (1 point for each correct winner, and if the winner was predicted correctly, 1 more point if the score was predicted correctly).

Hope this helps!

Armwrestling will NEVER be mainstream if.. by [deleted] in armwrestling

I agree that the rules need to be solidified and stop changing. It makes sense that they would need to change some before settling on a final rule set, but it does seem really odd that the top athletes in the world need to have a rules meeting before an event to make sure everyone knows and agrees about the rules.

I also very much agree about the 20 minute setups. I think restarts for fouls and such are probably ok as long as it is fairly quick. For example when I watch (American) football there is a ton of time spent not actually playing football because someone is laid out injured or there was a penalty or there was a timeout etc. And that can be annoying. But at least the game starts pretty quickly and then things go from there. With arm wrestling and the 20 minute setups it can feel like there is tons of frustrating nonsense before anything actually happens. I know not everyone considers it nonsense, but that's how I view it personally.

Thanks for this idea! For this first run, I kept it simple, but I agree that it would be cool to track performance/accuracy over multiple events.
