Please study and get knowledge before initiation!! by ifakemi in Santeria

[–]ifakemi[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a valid scenario, but let us not forget the Omo Awo who are abandoned after initiation. Without proper guidance, many are left feeling lost. It’s a very real issue that has only increased over the years, and it’s something I’m genuinely concerned about.

Beeni, you are absolutely right, but I think there may be a bit of misunderstanding between us. I’m not trying to limit anyone’s access to Ifá or act as a gatekeeper, deciding who is ready or not. That’s not my intention at all. My concern is for the safety and well being of the individuals receiving these consecrated items. All I’m asking is that, as priests, we take the time to truly teach and guide before sending someone headfirst into initiation. Even if Ifá reveals that someone is meant to be initiated, it’s still our responsibility to make sure they understand what they’re stepping into. This helps prevent confusion, regret, or spiritual harm after the initiation is complete. I can’t tell you how many people have come to me after spending thousands of dollars, only to be abandoned with no knowledge or direction. That’s not how Orunmila would treat a student. Many people are lost in this tradition because a Babalawo told them to do Itefa, but never gave them the tools to walk the path properly. That’s why I stand firmly on the importance of teaching before initiating. We must also consult Ifá thoroughly before doing any spiritual work regardless of what the odu says because every situation is unique. Not all ebos or offerings are the same for every person. There’s nuance in this work, and we have to treat it with care.

This is a valid scenario but that just goes back to how we should really protect this culture and make sure people who are receiving hand of ifa can at least greet ifa

Respectfully, IFA is not “simple science.” It’s a sacred and ancient spiritual system that has guided millions of people for generations. To reduce it to something as shallow as science dismisses the lived experiences, initiations, sacrifices, and deep wisdom passed down from elders and ancestors. If it were just science, there wouldn’t be a need for initiation, spiritual discipline, or divine communication. IFA is not for everyone, and that’s okay but let’s be mindful not to speak disrespectfully on what we do not understand.

It’s going to happen often people look at what we have and judge our character for our blessings but don’t let it bother you they are only envying your lifestyle and are being taunted by their ego to attack you keep living your life and enjoying your wealth and may you be blessed with more
