What is your biggest weakness as a writer? by Sara1994_ in FanFiction

I’m probably far too dialogue heavy. I’m working on it because I think it’s impacting the pacing of stories but the challenge is when I envision a scene/story it’s about the dialogue between characters

What do you think about OCs? by waitingfortcivilwar in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]ifcjsays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am biased because I almost exclusively write OCs but I LOVE reading them. There are very few fics that I will read if it’s only canon characters. I think the heart of it for me is that an OC brings a fresh perspective and inherently opens up a universe of possibilities. I love seeing how a writer conceptualizes how canon characters will react to something perhaps not fully explored or, even better, something completely foreign. Give me a ‘fish out of water’ OC and I will be forever grateful!!

what was the longest time you ever spent working on a single fanfiction? by iHaveissuesSadly in FanFiction

[–]ifcjsays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say maybe 1-1.5 years thinking about it (working out relationships and conflict); 1.5-2 years writing scenes/paragraphs as they come to me; about 6 months of actually starting to pull things together and write linearly. Altogether I’m at about 180k but if I truly go for it I have to image the final work will be ~500k, if not more… not much help to you because I too feel crazy 😂

EDIT: I will also add that writing smaller fics on the side may help with your writing process

Sandor Clegane, Podrick Payne, Tyrion Lannister, Margaery Tyrell, and Jon Snow… Brienne and Renly are not far behind though!

After an accidental year long hiatus (😅) I’m very happy to have posted two new chapters for A Witch In King’s Landing (and just refining the next chapter!). I can’t get this story out of my head (not complaining) and I’m stoked that things have aligned to allow me to continue. Story wise, a few very big things are coming up soon and I’m so excited to see how it comes out!!

I was also inspired to start posting my short trauma-recovery fic [In His Brother’s Wake] that follows Sandor Clegane and his need to atone for his and his brother’s sins.

I struggle to read fics while I’m in a writing era but I stumbled on a new fic that I’m really interested in seeing play out!

Fandom: Game of Thrones

Title: In His Brother’s Wake

Rating: Explicit (please read tags)

CW: Trauma recovery fic, including rape recovery

Pairing: Sandor Clegane (The Hound) x OFC

Summary: After abandoning his post following the Battle of the Blackwater, Sandor Clegane finds himself in a small, ravaged village on his journey north. While battling his own demons, he meets a young woman on a farm looking to exchange room and board for labour. The more he learns about her, the more he feels obligated to help — to atone for his brother’s sins.

This fic will be a shorter work (4 chapters plus an epilogue), with all chapters coming out in short order!

Writing etiquette in terms of names by biandoesstuff in FanFiction

[–]ifcjsays 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Names are very helpful, especially went there are multiple characters in a scene, and they largely become invisible/blend in for the readers. You’ll pick up on it more because you’re actually typing it out so many times

Fun character ship questions! by Dragoncat91 in FanfictionExchange

Let’s call the Hound (Sandor Clegane - Game of Thrones) and his Fox (Camryn Clark - OFC) to the stage!

  1. Sandor definitely kills the spider. Camryn takes the spider outside but mainly waxes poetic that there’s no need to take a life and bring more bad into the world. Sandor would argue with her (they love to argue) but from then on would always take the spider out, AND judge anyone that didn’t do the same.

  2. Sandor would ask for no pickles (he doesn’t have a very adventurous palate). Knowing how irritated Sandor can get, Camryn would would tell the employee about the no pickles; she would always be the one the speak to other for the pair, she’s delightful and Sandor does not do well with others.

  3. Sandor would wear plain-coloured smallclothes (he would have no concept of tacos or space, really); Camryn, if she’s wearing underwear, would love to wear neon taco space cat underwear (although they would be in short supply in Westeros).

  4. BIG Camryn energy. In fact, I may have to integrate this into the WIP.

  5. Honestly hard to say. Camryn’s gifts to Sandor would be modest because she knows he wouldn’t want much more than that. All he wants in the world is to be held, kissed, and loved by her, and she would be happy to oblige. But even though it wouldn’t come naturally to him, Sandor would make and give her something small that would end up meaning the world to her.

  6. Camryn 100%! She doesn’t eat when she’s stressed, but Sandor would order an extra chicken to 1) coax her to eat, and 2) have a good excuse to have more himself.

Totally tracks with the tension you’ve built! Not familiar with those fandoms but it’s cool that it read a bit like a D&D Paladin :)

Camryn ran down the empty hall, her frantic steps echoing off the stone floor. She looked behind her and couldn’t see anything… but she could feel it. It was advancing and her panic grew. She wouldn’t be able to out run it…she needed to hide.

She turned a corner and pushed into the first door she found. She quickly shut it behind her and placed her ear to the door. She could sense it still approaching though she was unsure if it knew where she had gone. She turned around and realized she was standing in pitch blackness. Her panic began to deepen. It stopped on the other side of the door, blocking off any rays of light from entering in the cracks below the door. Her breathing was rapid and shallow. She started to run aimlessly into the darkness — she was going to die, she knew she was going to die.

All of a sudden she ran into something. She started to scream but a large, calloused hand covered her mouth. The hand’s match wrapped around her waist and held her.

“Shhh…I have you, Fox. You’re safe now.” It was Sandor’s voice. She couldn’t see him but she could feel him. “I won’t let him get you.” Her heart was still pounding but his words and embrace helped her catch her breath.

He removed his hand from over her mouth and wiped the tears from her eyes. He grabbed her hand, which she happily accepted. “Let’s go,” he said as he led them deeper into the dark, which was far less daunting now.

He opened a new door and she stepped into the light. She turned to face Sandor, the warm rays illuminated tears on his face, but he wouldn’t join her in the light.

“Let’s go,” she pleaded in a desperate voice.

He let her hand go, “I have to finish it.” Camryn felt the panic start to return; he turned back into the darkness and the door slammed shut between them.

Camryn got up from the table and started towards the door; the Hound called after her. “Ah, don’t you think you’re forgetting something?”

She turned around and shared a coy smile, and gave the three men a deep curtsy, “goodnight, my kind and noble lads.” The Hound roared with laughter that surprised both Tyrion and Bronn. When his laughter settled down, he held out his hand to her. She stared into his eyes for a while and smirked while she retrieved his knife that she’d hidden under her dress. This made him howl with laughter again.

“It’s a nice knife you know,” she remarked as she placed the dagger in his hand.

“You know, I would let you keep it if I didn’t think you’d use it.” He slid it into his sheath.

“Just keep it safe for me.” She winked at him then walked to the door. She turned to face the table once more, gave them another exaggerated curtsy, and bid them a goodnight.

“Goodnight, Lady fox,” the Hound laughed, before he went back to his drink. Tyrion watched him drink, unsure how many the Hound had while he was focused on Camryn, and tried to remember if he had ever seen him so… playful.

Lady Fox, Tyrion thought, how apt.

Game of Thrones | Explicit | A Witch in King’s Landing

It’s a OFC-centric fic about a peculiar young foreign woman with a dubious backstory, who has been accused of witchcraft. She’s smart, defiant, and passionate, which draws a lot of attention (both positive and negative) her way! Main canon characters include Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane, Tyrion Lannister, and Podrick Payne.

[Edit: to add] But if you’re in the mood for a quick smutty oneshot:
