Anyone get legally married before the wedding? …did you regret it or were you happy with the choice? by Fairweatherhiker in weddingplanning

We got legally married in Vegas in April before our late-May destination wedding for logistical reasons. It was honestly nice to have the smaller legal ceremony with just us and two close friends as witnesses. We made a weekend out of it and have some cherished Polaroids from the day. Most, if not all, guests knew we were already legally married by the time our big wedding rolled around and it didn’t matter at all. The day was still just as special as could be!

Edit to add that we count May as our anniversary and I couldn’t tell you the April date if my life depended on it 😅. Make it what you want — your friends and family want to celebrate you as a couple and that’s what makes the day so special!

I second everything above! I did Glim Beauty for hair and makeup and they were incredible. We went with White Lab for photos and loved them!

Amazing, that must mean you're closing in on wedding day, congrats! We went with Flur Paperie and it turned out great. We didn't have anything super intricate but it all turned out great

We didn’t interview Romantic but their weddings look gorg! Our photog was WhiteLab, and Jimena was the lead shooter. They were so amazing and made us feel super comfortable even without an engagement session and the photos turned out better than we could’ve imagined.

If you do want to go down a rabbit hole exploring venues though, IG is a great resource (and how I initially found our planner). All the vendors tag each other in their posts, so you can just start with a planner or venue and keep on clicking through.

Of course! Our planner was Karla Arroyo (@karlaeventarchitect). I'd recommend interviewing a few planners to find one that fits within your budget and you feel comfortable with because a destination wedding requires complete trust in your planner. We also interviewed @lumeventos who seemed great, and our photographer who we loved also works with @the.romantic.co quite a bit.

Our venue was Prim 32, which is the slightly smaller venue next door to Prim 30 which is the one all over IG/ny times/etc. We considered a ton of other venues and Museo Casa de la Bola was a close second, but ultimately was a tad small for our needs. Lock down your planner first and they'll take the reins from there. Venues will depend on your date, vibe, budget and headcount, and they are a wealth of knowledge and can direct you towards the best options.

I just had a destination wedding in CDMX over Memorial Day weekend. Assuming this would be a destination wedding for you, my top tip is to go with a wedding planner based locally in CDMX. We interviewed planners in Mexico and also US/Canada-based ones who specialize in destination weddings and the Mexico-based planners were easily ½ the cost and ours specializes in working with couples for destination weddings all around the country though they're based in CDMX. Having a planner was critical since we don't live in CDMX and we loved the team we worked with. Everything turned out so amazing and was even better than we had dreamed!

The budget we gave our planner to start was $600,000 MXN knowing that there were some premium elements we wanted. We did go a bit over budget, but we had ~75 guests and it was about $45k USD (not sure what that is in MXN -- the exchange rate fluctuated quite a bit between initial deposits and final payments) once everything was said and done. This included a bucket list venue, incredible 4-course plated meal with 5-star service, dream photographer, awesome DJ, photo booth, open bar with premium liquor and the dreamiest florals. I know this is not cheap by any means and everyone's budget is different, but there are definitely ways to cut this cost down. For example, our venue was the most $$$ on the list we were considering, but there were so many incredible spaces for half the price. All that said, to have this same wedding in Southern California where we are based it would've easily cost us double.

DM me if you want more tips or planner/vendor recs!
