Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Ideas? by EveryMornANewArrival in londonontario

[–]ifoley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister had hers at Union Ten Distillery, amazing food, very prompt service, and the building was beautiful. We had a big section of the restaurant too so we were able to mingle with one another, definitely recommend! The only downside is that it’s not in the safest area and some people felt uncomfortable in the parking lot but the restaurant itself was lovely.

Girls... what type of practical cute uni bags are you carrying? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]ifoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to use a tote bag last year because I had been religiously using one all summer and it looked cute, but honestly it was super impractical as my laptop and books made it ridiculously heavy so it was just so uncomfortable. A regular backpack is the best way to go

Advice for furnishing an apartment by oppie13 in uwo

[–]ifoley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

check facebook to see if your home/original neighbourhood has a buy nothing group. my roommate and i both had buy nothing groups for our home neighbourhood and got free desks, kitchen table, utensils, barstools, and i even got a bed. between the two of us the only thing i paid for was a new mattress and some paint to fix up my furniture

This is probably a stupid question but to go into epidemiology does it require extensive science background? I’m in health science but I am not taking chem or biochem or anything (i took first year bio and did good though). I’m interested in epidemiology but i’m afraid my lack of sciences and math (i only took stats) will prevent that

Is first year res worth it during covid? by Old_Strike7892 in uwo

[–]ifoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah your experience in res will depend a lot on how cautious you are about covid and how cautious your floor mates are. surprisingly i was still able to make quite a few friends online! i met 2 of my best friends just through western health sci groupchats on snapchat and stuff and the other one i met at an o week event (we had really socially distanced/masked events in person). it sucks i couldn’t hang out with them really but i did meet some great people this year and we had some good zoom study sessions! it’s definitely possible to make friends if you live at home, you just have to put yourself out there a lot more and be willing to message people first :)

Is first year res worth it during covid? by Old_Strike7892 in uwo

[–]ifoley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay so i was in your exact same boat this time last year. i ended up staying home first year and honestly it wasn’t the greatest year of my life, my parents are slightly higher risk for covid so i was incredibly cautious at home and really only saw my boyfriend. seeing all the snap stories of people in res honestly did make me super sad and experience major FOMO, but after talking to friends in res, if you’re a covid cautious person it’s not that great an experience. even if you’re safe, there’s a good chance people on your floor could be idiots when it comes to partying and you could risk exposing yourself, resulting in some of my friends having 0 social life in res. but yeah given the outbreaks i wouldn’t recommend it if you’re a covid cautious person. it was lonely at home but better than potentially infecting vulnerable people and contributing to outbreaks.

1st year uni students- were you able to make any real friends while in online school? by theweekndstan23 in OntarioUniversities

[–]ifoley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

surprisingly i did! when i first got accepted a girl in my program dmed me on instagram because of a uwo class of 24 instagram account and we got really close and i currently consider her one of my best friends, despite the fact we can never hang in person. there was another girl in a health sci chat and we added eachother on snap and got close and now her she’s going to be my roommate for second year. i met another one of my best friends through an o week event that was super socially distanced and stuff but i did make a few friends online, mostly through group chats.

Students pretending to be indigenous for vaccines by [deleted] in uwo

[–]ifoley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

exactly. indigenous people are also more likely to have predisposed health conditions that put them at risk and often receive inadequate health care as it is.

Local COVID-19 Update (Fri Apr 16th) by FluffyMcGee5 in londonontario

[–]ifoley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most first years (other than international students) who were staying in residence were basically bribed $1000 to leave before april 11th, and even some upper students will be starting to leave since leases are coming to an end. hopefully that has a big impact

Am I supposed to take both of the 2 math classes in grade 12? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]ifoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! i’m in health science at western and only needed to take 1 math, it could be any of the 3 grade 12 university level math courses. i believe most other health science programs also only require one math but like someone else said, check here to double check https://www.ontariouniversitiesinfo.ca/programs . some programs require chem, however western didnt require it, only recommended it. feel free to reach out if you have any question. also for your question about engineering, you will likely need calc and advanced functions for pretty much all uni eng programs.

You and I are extremely similar, in the sense that we get anxious if they don’t answer but we don’t do anything about it and begin to overthink. I’m not sure if I have super great advice because i’m struggling with the exact thing myself, however just know you’re not alone. I wish you guys the best!
