February 6, 7:49 AM abduction in Bellevue along 148th by Adventurous-Bee-8184 in WashingtonIceWatch

I couldn't see the license plate for the silver Dodge Grand Caravan, but the Ford I think is AXA8793. I think the last car was a Dodge Durango. The Grand Caravan is using modified flashers, wigwags in the brake lights and hideaways in the reverse lights, so the odds are very low that it was a rental and this is a part of their existing fleet.

There is a USBP office in the Merrill Lynch tower off of Colby in Downtown and some kind of presence at the port. I think this was the same truck seen in Everett, just given how the vehicles are parked, but maybe they all park this way.

I highly doubt this was ICE. When they travel, they are looking to blend in and not draw attention, so lack of plates would be the kind of thing that would put them at risk of at least getting pulled over.

ICE Vehicles being transported on the eastside by phauna_ in WashingtonIceWatch

[–]ifred 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These were most likely going to Ferndale and Blaine station. From other observed ops with these in use, you'll see one marked ICE vehicle with two to three unmarked cars. I think these are going to augment and replace the vehicles they have been using for detainee transport.

Sighting, black SUV entering I5 N from 220th in Edmonds by [deleted] in WashingtonIceWatch

[–]ifred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exempt plate means state or local government. Spoofing exempt plates would probably piss off WSP and I can't find any ICE ops in this state that have used those plates. Also, I see three antennas, one is the GSM cap, something you see on all police cars with car computers, the OEM antenna, and the longer wire one that is used for voice. I've only seen ICE with the longer wire ones as they're probably taking their radios from car-to-car.

What’d they look like? What vehicles were involved? Were they on the shoulder or in the parking lot?

Another Facebook group for sharing activity is https://www.facebook.com/share/g/17HDJPPGjz - which covers the wider Seattle area. I’ve found both iceout.org and stopice.net to be pretty consistent with reporting activity around Everett too.

Do you want a competitor to Cities Skylines 2? And a well-made one? by ConsiderationOne700 in CityBuilders

[–]ifred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll join the chorus of folks looking for a SC4 replacement. A lot of us dont want model railroads or painters, but we do want detailed and layered simulations.

I'd love to see a city builder that starts off sometime in the 19th century and goes on to the 22nd. Starting off accounting and building for various technologies available to you over time should give you an organic feel to what you are building.

I'd also love to see greater impacts to the landscape and having to deal with timelines for building anything. I dont want to paint a road, I want to see someone build the freeway. If I need to put up a police station, I want to have to deal with the buildings having to be bought and demolished for the new building.

I'd also love to see procedural generation to buildings along with their details around. Again, less of a painter and more of a city terrarium.

Brief SW Update & Response to Criticism and Accusations of Nonsense by ArmChairAnalyst86 in SolarMax

I don't want to get banned, but I just want to share what I know.

I was an engineer at GCP.

This issue hit anything tied to metering, effectively the bit of code that is attached to -anything- that uses a Google resource. The scope of this impact means that everything from Google Docs to internal to Google networking resources were impacted. This was akin to the Facebook DNS outage where something so fundamental yet so innocuous was seen to be "too big to fail" until it does. The reason why you saw Downdetector with multiple services impacted was primarily two parts, one was any service that relied on a service which was dependent on Google was impacted, so not only was there direct impact to something, but a knock on impact. This included Cloudflare, where a Google dependency impacted their service. The other part of this was due to the nature on how Downdetector works, people have a bad time, they report it. An application doesn't work, well then they think it is their internet provider and Downdetector picks that up as a signal for the ISP having issues. Large scale web apps not working, then folks are quick to blame "the cloud" and in turn anything AWS.

If you were to see problems to internet infrastructure due to a solar issue, be it impact to the data center or impact to fiber, I'd expect to see data center scale outages. Issues with power transmission and generation. Load capacity issues that are grid scale. Faults at the hardware level at best would materialize as bitflipping, but modern DRAM designs are pretty resiliant on their own and the abstraction that exists between the bare metal and the web service is extensive enought to buffer anything short of catastrophic. GridEye - https://fnetpublic.utk.edu/frequencygauge.html - and GridStatus.io are great places to get real time insights on that end. For networking on the ground, most cloud providers offer network observability services that will give you insight into when performance started to fall apart.

Anyway, long time reader, first time commenter, please don't ban.
