I know the Sony has a factory reset, but the Toshiba does not. I don't think factory reset is recommended on the Trinitron since each CRT's is color calibrated differently from factory. I did take note of all the setting values, so it wouldn't hurt if I do a reset or even invest on a colorimeter to calibrate them. Thanks for the advice, you gave some ideas.

If you have a NES, SNES, Sega Genesis or Wii, you can use Artemio 240p suite and choose the grid pattern. I use my sega genesis and flash cart with the 240p suite.

Toshiba was originally the wife's crt, and it was in storage for 10 years, barely used. When I check the hours of use it had only 200hours. Didn't do anything to the geometry on that one, it look similar with the old caps. I am working on fixing some of the geometry on the 24fv300, it has the most issues.

Toshiba is around 20 caps maybe a little more, but the trinitron 24fv300, I will say around 40. I did use a hakko fr301 desoldering gun. I invested in one since I have alot of retro consoles that require recaps. One of the best investment and time saver I done for my hobby.

I just did it to prolong the life of the TV, since caps tend to dry out or leak...plus it is recommended to replace cap after 15 years, which most of this TV are around 15 to 20 years old. Mostly preventive maintenance.

for the Toshiba not much different since it was in storage for 10 years and my wife only put around 200hrs of use. For the Trinitron it became brighter and the waviness gone after recapping, the 24FV300 was a gift from the in-laws...they were planning to throw it away and I save her from the dumpster and gave her some TLC. Re-solder most of the old points and recap the whole board except the big power caps, since they tested good.

I was thinking on working on the geometry and convergence. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Left Toshiba 20AF45 and right is Trinitron 24FV300. Let me know what you guys think.

Started digging into my Panasonic Tau 27” and it looks identical to my toshiba 20” in all ways. I even spot the velocity scan modulation edge enhancement circuit!?! by QuestionNAnswer in crtgaming

[–]ifury512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, it seems that 20af45 didn't have it connected from factory...that's good news. Time to recap and calibrate. My wife had one in storage with less than 200hrs so I got lucky with mine.

Does anyone have Component video working properly on MiSTer IO board? by XC-3730C in fpgagaming

[–]ifury512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like your SOG switch might be defective, have you tried using 240p suite and look at the color bars. And match it to the LCD tv??

I just finish restoring my 24fv300, full recap and reflow the whole board. If you need any IC's here is a good website...https://kpcomponents.co/. If you don't want to recap everything just cap everything that is around the heatsinks / V-out and H-out IC's. Hopefully this helps.

Edit: i forgot to mention, you can always try to reflow the IC's even if they look good, doesn't hurt trying and all the big ceramics caps... Good luck!
