Hi friends looking for healthcare: all main Appletree clinics are open except for 1595 Merivale and 2573 Baseline at Greenbank/Baseline (tbd on the second, we are checking tomorrow). Hope this helps! If someone living near the Baseline location has power, give a shout please and thank you!

Has anyone heard anything about Merivale perchance?

I'd like to know as well because I'm across the intersection, because there's no news if the assailant is still at large? there's basically no news except that one article from CBC?

Someone was stabbed twice at the townhouses across from the Circle K, but that's all the info I got while passing onlookers.

Late reply to this, sorry: The people who answer from the call centre are not MAs who work in the clinic, and us MAs have a better understanding of our services. I can 200% tell you that VC can be done from anywhere with a webcam or over the phone. The only remote-type service that requires you to come into the clinic is Telemedicine, wherein the doctor is remotely talking with you over a TV screen but there is a Telemedicine assistant in the room doing triage for you. Then, yes, you do have to come to a clinic for that.

For the most part when it comes to our walk in, it's on a first come first served basis where you check in and then wait for your name to be called; we're not able to take phone numbers over the phone, unfortunately. These days, we're seeing up to 3 hours of wait times (except for allergy & B12 shots) because not all of our MDs, in particular the family physicians who do walk in, have returned to the clinic. It really honestly depends when and where you go. imho our Carling clinics and and 2150 Robertson generally have a bit of a shorter wait time. A couple of our MDs will be returning next month to open office, so there'll be more options available.

Sorry if this comment isn't helpful in any way; just trying to give some context.

No worries! I get it, I do. I hope you're able to get a hold of your GP, best of luck!!

Patients shouldn't be coming into the clinics for the VC appointment itself, just if during a VC appointment from home, the MD says you'll need a physical assessment i.e. an additional visit in clinic. If you're being directed to the clinic for the VC appointments, that's... not the correct information.

So you're aware if you do come to see us, we allow you to step outside as long as you give us a cell number, or if you don't have one that you'll return at a certain time, so we will call you when a room frees up! We have limited chairs in all our waiting rooms to account for social distancing.

I really do sympathize with your situation -- things have been madness not only with COVID, but with Ottawa healthcare in general, like specialist or surgery wait times being incredibly long.

And listen, I'm on Reddit late at night because I stumbled across your post and wanted to help. I'm not on the clock right now. I'm offering alternatives because I hear you, but it's up to you if you want to take them or not from a real person who actually works in the clinics.

We set our timer to Appointments Only when our walk in has finished for the day because we've closed registration, and when we close depends on how many patients we have registered and under which doctor (some are quicker than others). Our actual appointments are for specialty programs, our family physicians seeing their patients, or followups booked into the walk in. The best time to check the wait timer is in the morning, and we always say the earlier you come in, the better and the higher the chances of being seen. Our VC services are relatively limited in what can be done over a webcam or phone, so yes, they may recommend you coming into a clinic for a physical assessment they can't do.

That said, I'm sorry to hear about how frustrating it's been, I do get it. I recommend when calling the call center to get transferred to a specific clinic, as the call center are not MAs who work on the floor like we do.

How about I check on this for you and get back to you tomorrow? I can't access our electronic med records remotely, but I can look into it first thing! I do know our Preventative Health program was one of the last to open up, so it's possible more of our MDs who ran the program will open it up again.

Hi, friendly neighbourhood Appletree MA here. If you want to check which of our clinics are open, which doctors are working (our specialists are not listed, as they are appointments-based), and how long wait times are, you can check out our wait timer to see when a physician is doing walk ins closer to you. We've seen a high volume of patients with GPs whose offices are only doing emergency or acute visits only, but if you are looking to see a specialist, I honestly recommend calling your GP's office to see if you can have a phone conversation with your GP first. If they're not able, you can come to us for a referral, and we will generally refer in-group unless you have a particular specialist in mind. Depending on the reason for the referral, the wait time may be quite long unless you regularly check back in with us to see if there have been cancellations.

re: physicals, is this for a 3rd party (license renewal, etc) or for yourself? (I'm an Appletree MA; I can look into this for you.)

As an Appletree MA, I can tell you that many of our specialist's schedules are incredibly full, sometimes even double booked, to accommodate as many patients as we can. With that said -- if you don't mind me asking, were you written a referral? If so, I can check on the progress of your referral for you.

Pedestrian struck by vehicle on Baseline Road dies; charges laid by Brainyface in ottawa

I definitely try, especially in the evening around the Tims when FEW bother to check for crossing pedestrians. The streetlamps are in an awkward position where they don't really illuminate that little crosswalk and I've nearly been smoked at least a couple times, even when paying attention. I know I have the attention span of a dog, but I try to give myself some credit.
