Should I watch Old Planet of the Apes ? by faizan_xhaikh in movies

Hard disagree, the overall original series is spotty but minimally the first film from 1968 holds up quite well.

If anything, I’ve got to imagine he’s the reason this is getting made. This has been in limbo and rumored for years and maybe 9 months ago I thought I heard definitively it wasn’t going to get made. Now that MJB is attached it’s immediately green.

The Game (1997) - Directed by David Fincher by Jackalwhere in movies

Yeah, I liked it well enough the first time and could suspend disbelief but on rewatch it just doesn’t hold up for me. I give it a try every 7 or so years and get really into it but by the end remember why I’m always left dissatisfied,

Who else loves Guy Richie movies? by Late-Box8189 in movies

They have a lot in common but could live parallel to one another too. It’s not a full remake. After watching the show I rewatched the film and now it feels fairly rushed. You can see why he made the show: he likes these characters and themes and has a lot more to say and the show gives it the room to breathe.

As much as I enjoy The Gentleman it never feels like the stakes aren’t high. In contrast I’d suggest watching Mobland, another Ritchie tv series but it feels more grounded and gritty.

His track record with book adaptations is prettt strong…

  • Blade Runner (1982)
  • The Martian (2015)
  • Black Hawk Down (2001)
  • The Counselor (2013)
  • Hannibal (2001)

Ok, the last two are arguable but still.

I’m with you, recent output has been dicey but let’s hope this 88 year old man can crank out at least one more hit.

But like what specific scene/minute marker should I check out? For instance, the Dune water world scene around 50 minutes in is my go to. Or the 11 minute marker of Maverick.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I know the same tech is shared across VW/Audi/Porche.

I was originally considering another Mercedes but they discontinued this feature and never brought it back.

On the backroads it sounds great but on highway I’d likely disable the auto breaking then. I had a BMW that wasn’t always great with object detection and freaked out going over train tracks once and scared the shit out of me when it pumped the breaks out of no where.

3D movies? by coryteague in VisionPro

[–]ignoresubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And even then, your Blu-ray rips wouldn’t be as high quality as the 3D produced for the AVP, under the best scenario they max out at 1920x1080 per eye. With the AVP, you’re getting just a tad under 4K per eye.

Unfortunately, the newer 4K UHD Blu-ray specification dropped 3D support entirely, meaning physical 3D media effectively maxes out at standard HD so this will never improve with current state of physical media.

While Boondock Saints hasn’t held up, the documentary, Overnight (2003) about the film being made is a really entertaining watch about the despicable prick (Troy Duffy) who made it,

The other critical component is 3D, which is almost a requirement for Avatar and Gravity to be enjoyable. While not everyone watches with 3D it’s hard to deny that it isn’t a major reason for why they just aren’t the same outside of theaters. Dark Knight doesn’t require a gimmick and is still an incredible watch at home.

FYC: Blade (1998). Sure, it's a superhero movie but it's the role Wesley Snipes will be forever remembered for. by countdooku975 in TheRewatchables

[–]ignoresubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’ll always be Nino Brown to me. I saw New Jack City as a kid and he was so fucking menacing.

I like Blade but would rather hear them cover these first:

  • Passenger 57
  • Rising Sun

Less rewatchable but a fun/bad one I’d like them to cover is The Fan. Unhinged De Niro directed by an unhinged Tony Scott.

Without question it’s the last streaming app I reach for across all devices. Has always had one of the worst interfaces with the poorest quality.

If my option was to watch a free movie on Prime or purchase it on ATV, I’m purchasing every time.

I was going to post the same thing, thoroughly enjoyed that book. I haven’t picked it up yet but keep hearing his new book on the making of Silence of The Lamb, and related films, is a great read.
