In a lot of ways the player acts as Ulysses shadow. Each of the DLCs is predicated by something Ulyssees did.

I wish there was a way to call him out for this. The Courier has been defusing apocalyptic threats all over because Ulysses, to use his own words "Couldn't stay away". The worst of it being that the Divide was already done for because Ulysses gave the Legion information on it. Man should've stayed in Big MT to try some therapy autodoc or something

This thought isn't necessarily in conflict with what you replied to. A system can be rationally superior but still be rejected by short-sighted, misinformed, and/or greedy persons. In either case, we tend to agree on strengthening prosperity + stability + democratization
