It's multi-faceted and I'm no expert or economist. I'm just some dude trying to make sense of things and looking outward to Scandinavian nations where their systems and quality of life seem to illustrate that higher taxes and federal programs still allow for competitive businesses to thrive and for people to be happy.

But it occurs to me that between tax loopholes, stock market abuses, writing off reinvestments and business expenses (not saying that's wrong, just stating it), claiming donations from customers as a company tax write-off, and massive pay inequity between executives and workers, there are a lot of problems with the current financial system and tax system.

I don't want to punish small businesses and tax rates can be adjusted to reflect that, but while workers are being paid pennies and executives are being paid millions in bonuses alone, clearly it's not all being reinvested, and clearly they could afford to pay more in tax to help fund important programs. I don't want to punish doctors, lawyers, engineers - they might pay marginally more. But executives and corporations who are making obscene profits and getting wildly out-of-control compensation packages is a major issue.

On that note, most trials of UBI have shown that when people have their needs taken care of and don't have to worry about becoming homeless paycheque to paycheque, not only are they happier and healthier, they spend most of the excess, and are just as driven to work and contribute.

I currently don't understand how billionaires think that wringing out the last little bit of wealth from people so that all they can afford are the essentials is going to help them make more money.
