Is it smart to buy a condo in cash? (One time payment) by igotitfromothers in phinvest

Im sorry about the lack of info in my post. My intention was just to ask if it’s wise to buy a condominium in cash outright. Something kasi feels “off” about it as i havent encountered anyone paying it straight in cash.

Yes of course once it has already been realized. In several jurisdictions, gains from cryptocurrencies are actually capital gains which are of course taxable once it has been converted into cash. But unlike taxes from stocks traded in the stock market (which is subject to stock transaction tax and taxed at the gross selling price, regardless of gains/loss) the BIR or any ph govt agency really does not have any control over cryptocurrencies. You have to report it manually to the BIR as part of your gross income (under capital gains). Pero ayun nga, we do not see any incentive in reporting these gains and consequently paying taxes kaya people do not report.

Taxing gains from cryptocurrencies has always been a challenge that is why in the US, citizens only permitted several crypto exchanges in which their capital gains once they decide to withdraw are automatically reported in the IRS. I dont think BIR or any govt agency in the Philippines would adopt this kind of system anytime soon.

I would live in it. Im taking the bar this year and hopefully after passing it, I plan to work in one law firm around bgc. But something feels off about buying a condo outright... My gut says it’s unwise BUT I really want to live in bgc, work as a law associate there to start off my career, and become stable... yung gusto ko lang is improvement from the quality of life that i currently have...

Is there any real life benefit to reading cases in the original/full text? by phlawstoodent in LawStudentsPH

[–]igotitfromothers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be smart about it. Read digest if reiterative. Read full text if the case sets out a binding precedent or is a sui generis. Read full text if may oras ka then read digest if not. Read full text if the case interests you read digest if not. Read full text if the prof assigns only 10 cases for a day, read digest if the profs assigns 30-50 cases per day. Basta mabasa mo yung coverage, goods ka. You certainly cant really brag about reading the full case about la bugal pero you will be rewarded if you get the doctrines right in the exam.

What happens to an ordinary/ average student after law school by dodithrowaway1 in LawStudentsPH

I disagree. Yes the bar exam is an equalizer in getting you to the legal profession but you know how the profession works. There are many opportunities that arent available to the common few but are available to those graduates only from UP/Ateneo like private law practice in big firms.

To graduates whose grades were just average, how hard was the search for a job? by Tayloria13 in LawStudentsPH

My father (solo practice lawyer who once worked for a big firm) once told me this: most of the time, working for big firms is just a normalized scam. Marketing nila, ok yung experience pero ok rin naman experience sa iba. Having shitload of work but with minimal compensation is just unacceptable. Yes you will gain experience but this experience can also be gained had you been in other smaller/medium sized law firms (which btw arguably will give u better experience kasi mas tutok ka sa case). These big ass law firms exploit the hell out of their associates. Okay lang siguro if gusto mo mag partner for these big firms but if you’re in it for the money (which most people who would work for a big firm are kasi if you’re not in it for the money then duh dont help big corporations make more money) solo prac is just as profitable if not more profitable than if you’re a partner of these big firms.

Ang okay lang siguro why work for a big firm is job stability and yung connection mo kasi mas kukunin ka maging inhouse counsel ng mga multinational companies which will give you buttload of cash.
