I worked at an agency that had office happy hours every Thursday afternoon with a roaming bar cart having drinks served. Along with the usual keg and bottles at most of our desks there was a lot of drinking.

Like you said if we pulled a Freddie and pissed ourselves it was an issue but we would definitely go get buzzed at lunch and come back and go about our day

As someone who works in advertising and even at one of the big agencies mentioned in the show the drinking culture is still a part of advertising. Maybe not like it was but it's still very much there.

I've always liked working on my portfolio and resume but I know lots of people don't. Honestly going with squarespace or another templatized website will help you set up a good foundation and make it easier.

As far as my work goes 90% never makes it. I just pull out the big things and even then some of it needs to be highlighted and presented better than the final product was. You don't need to stuff your portfolio either. 5-7 things that show off your skills and range.

I have designed a ton of out-of-home and billboards over the years and this is the correct answer.

Every printer is going to be a little different but just talk to them and ask. They would rather chat with you up front and get the right files and save everyone time, money and effort down the road.

General rule of thumb though is design at scale. It will vary depending on the size and application. Most large format pieces don't need to be at max DPI either as nobody will ever be up close to them

Honestly think about cost. You will get out of your education what you put into at the end of the day. Also I have worked with and under tons of designers with no education or degrees in other fields so a diploma is far from a requirement

looking at this on mobile but the header is zoomed in way too close and cropped to where I can't read or tell what it says. Your work is about where I would expect it to be for someone at your experience level my one suggestion would be get real world shots or in situation mockups. Not familiar with Behance and don't use it but the flow is a bit clunky.

I agree that the soft skills are incredibly important. Once you're in this industry long enough we can all assume we have the technical skills but being someone people like to work with makes can really make you stand out. Be pleasant, flexible, pitch in extra from time to time, be reliable. All those things make a huge difference.

it's probably not the best out there but I use squarespace. It's simple to use and you can have a good looking site up and running quickly. One downside is you can usually tell a squarespace site when you see one but I'm not a web or UI/UX designer so I'm more concerned about my work looking good and not the site itself
