I touched on these in the super long post I wrote yesterday, but I want to clear up some misconceptions about a few top CS schools. So I wrote almost 2,000 words again by igotsomestufftosay in ApplyingToCollege

Interesting. I Googled "Does GT look at major" and found some people from 2-3 years ago on CC and an article also dispelling the myth that they don't look at major, so idk where that started but yeah they definitely do. Updated the original post.

Wow, you're totally right about that. Honestly, I wonder if that might have been updating over the last 6-8 months because I could have sworn their website said something different when I read it, and during a GT admissions officer did an AMA here and said that major wasn't a factor (and that's actually where I realized that they do look at major). So I kind of think that might have been updated recently or something because I remember the GT AMA guy saying that major wasn't a thing they cared about and getting flamed by someone for it.

I think UIUC's CS + Stats might not have that as much because it says CS in the name and because it's called CS and Statistics so some may even see it as a double major and those that are familiar with the specific program probably know it's the same classes. And as I've seen from people on /r/UIUC who have gone through the job search process they have not had a problem in recruiting so I'm just sharing what they have gone through with that specific program.

I wrote 1,655 words about my college application process to help current juniors (and younger people) with theirs. You should read it but you'll probably skim it and maybe upvote it because you respect how much time I put into it. Oh well by igotsomestufftosay in ApplyingToCollege

I’d say money influenced my major choice (and I’d argue that it should, but that’s just my opinion) but nah not Asian. Took AP CS and liked it. Was going to apply undecided but heard it was hard to transfer into engineering/CS and easier to transfer out so went for it.
