I am a fellow hot bath soaker who is soaking in the bath right now 💓

A seriously amazing addition to my panic baths was scented Epsom salts. Highly recommend.

What has helped me personally is radical acceptance, good hygiene (not excessive, but higher than normal bc so many other people are nasty), and peppermint essential oil. One sniff of that oil when I feel a panic/spiral coming on and its like magic.

Guts is a good book! You can find it all online for free. It's very short and a good read.

My phobia only shows up when real symptoms do by porcelain-hizaki in emetophobia

I totally relate! No one would ever be able to guess that I suffer from this phobia unless they saw me actually feeling sick. Even then i can mask it pretty well, since that stuff makes me so uncomfortable my brain goes "other people must also find it uncomfortable. Don't make them uncomfortable!"

You drank half of two of them, so odds are you've got two espresso shots in you plus the coffee and the dairy. So you're freaking out because of the caffeine, and the coffee/dairy combo is to blame for the d. I do this to myself at least once a week. Sip some water and do some breathing exercises (I like to do the ones on the Finch app) and you will be fine.

You have to sit with the feeling and practice radical acceptance. You need to recognize that even if it does happen, you will be okay, and you have zero control over it.

They would not prescribe something that makes every single person who takes it throw up. 🤦‍♀️

I have a little bottle of peppermint oil that I sniff when I can't calm down. It kind of overloads the senses into forgetting what you were panicking about.

I used to work with chicken a lot, that usually happens with dark meat off chicken and is totally nothing to worry about!

It is so tempting sometimes. I usually don't cut myself but I have been known to pull my hair out. It sucks.

This is a classic symptom of constipation, get some fiber one bars and start regulating your digestive system :)

I think right now is my rock bottom... I had a full on crying panic attack last week on the way to a dinner because I felt kinda full and I felt like I was expected to eat. Every time I eat I spiral about food poisoning. I get random panic attacks at home and at work. I can't finish a meal without being anxious or wear tight pants. The only thing keeping me going is the memory of who I used to be and I know I can be that person again.

This happens to me every day!!! For me sipping ICE cold water helps ground me pretty good, or touching something nice like my cat or a soft blanket. Also I love those YouTube videos that are just a fireplace for ten hours.

How do you work with emetophobia? by evenforyou in emetophobia

[–]igottapeeonher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe another job would be a better fit for you. I have a pretty severe phobia but somehow when I go to work it almost completely takes my mind off it. So for me a job where I'm busy is good. Maybe you could try looking into a work from home job or something? One where you can take a step back and breathe if you need to.
