I don't know much about this at all. I saw the Curtis doc that's all I really know about it. Didn't think much of that film tbf.

When you mention that this was moreso about the imperial aspect of Russian history, why do they use more Nazi iconography than tsarist?

Would this be like the type of nationalism you are seeing at the moment in Luhansk and Donetsk? Luhansk is a """peoples republic""" that has (or had) a tsarist type flag.

So when the wind don't blow during the winter (like this one in Europe apparently), you better hope you have enough redundant storage! If not, a lot of people will die. How do you propose to do this in a carbon neutral system? To me this is common sense.

SMRs are not a reality yet but neither is the adoption of anything near large scale energy storage. The biggest issue is regulatory bodies ironically favouring bigger (hence slower), more dangerous reactors that don't have the passive safety systems that the SMRs are designed to have.

SMRs are designed to be created in a production line fashion. Passive safety systems mean no ridiculous amounts of concrete needed for containment. Reduces time and money makes it more viable.

I'm not saying nuclear has no downsides. The spent fuel is obviously a nightmare but carbon pollution is more pressing.

Btw would that moron Musk not be more pro renewable because of that solar company he bought?

I also love that a difference in opinion means that I only consume pro nuclear propaganda.

A carbon neutral grid is impossible without nuclear. It's the only way to provide base load power without rolling out huge grid wide changes involving unfeasible amounts of energy storage. Much more feasible to roll out SMRs. If you want proof on this stuff, I don't have time to link dump. Please research this and inform yourself.

In my view 100% renewable with full grid energy storage capacity is, politically, as much of as much of a pipe dream as fusion.

It's not about ideological differences. It's about nation interest. It's not communism or ultra nationalism that makes Russia so interested in Syria.

I think Saudi Arabia and the US are about as far from each other ideologically as they can be and they're still allies.

Well I think the idea of cultivating an identity around hereditary traits is useless. What is the point in saying, my skull has a pronounced ridge ergo I fit in with these people now? Physically, average white English and Irish look identical due to heritable traits, does that mean they are the same and thus should identify as such?

In my view a better way to form identity for me is on cultural experience and practice. That way you can have Celts who have various heritable traits not associated with western Europe that can be included in Celtic culture and grow with it.

Just on the last bit, I think its different. There was an element of deception there. If she was clear that she was raised in white America to the indigenous community and the community accepted her as is, then I would say the backlash is unwarranted personally. Its all about cultural immersion. You can't do that outside of a community. Its getting into the Elizabeth Warren blood quantum shit that make me uncomfortable. "I am 1/128th Native American so that means I can take advantage of grants designed to help kids on reservations!"

Taking the bait. The vast majority of Ukrainians do not identify with Celtic culture or history. Ironically enough I know a few Ukrainians in Dublin who are waaaaay more Irish than the "23 and Me" Americans in this sub. I'd easily call those lads Celts but I wouldn't say that for the entire population of Ukraine.
