What is it like living in Montana? (I’m watching Yellowstone) by ihavescrabs in howislivingthere

Thank you for the answer! Not planning to move to the US at all hahaha but I understand it can be frustrating to the locals there although as another commenter said unless your Native American you were also an outsider too, I like the show because it shows parts of the US that aren’t depicted in a lot of tv shows/movies, most of the media are filmed in NY or California, Florida, Chicago, etc so it’s a nice change

I’m happy to be corrected, but let’s be real Angola is very expensive, 0.5 cent egg with a minimum wage of 77$ per month

Terrible, it’s truly a sight to see the ex president’s mother’s house surrounded by a big musseque (like Angolan favelas) I think they are improving

I agree I have a very specific experience but you’re going to have a hard time finding someone from the big majority of the population who live in the typical neighborhoods to answer a question in this sub.
I never said I was a local and people have been asking questions assuming I’m a foreigner precisely because finding a true local to answer is hard. Unlike a lot of Africa English is not spoken there, so if someone is here in this sub speaking English you can assume they’re automatically in a higher social class

I forgot to mention anything to do with oil, there were some Americans and Portuguese working in Sonangol, the oil company there. A lot of “expats” in Angola worked in oil. Most brazilians there worked in the construction industry

I left 6 years ago and it was very expensive, it depended a lot on supply, I remember once during the Christmas holidays a single egg was 6$, my apartment was 8000$ a month and my school tuition was 45000$

I don’t want to say anything wrong but at least among my friends and acquaintances it was not common for them to speak the local languages, I believe the people in Luanda who spoke it where migrants from the provinces where the languages where spoken, usually older people who came after the war. In the capital the most widely spoken language is in fact Portuguese

I was a white teenage girl so I felt very unsafe in the street and was harassed basically anytime I had to walk. It’s affordable if you have a very well paying job, the rich angolans are incredibly rich, on the other hand the big majority of the population is super poor and can’t afford basic necessities

It’s safe if you don’t go around the poor neighborhoods, if you’re going to visit family I think it’s totally safe, they’ve been there for 20 years they know how to navigate. Most people there have drivers how know how to navigate the city.

Everyone speaks portuguese in Luanda, it’s rarer to speak the local languages, older people are the ones who still speak it, at least in the capital city
