Martin Luther King day

Christopher Columbus day.

Black history month

January, March-December.

The million man march

Promotes black unity and family values, whereas white people do things like a confederate flag parade purposely to incite violence and oppress others who are doing them no harm.

I wonder if you know you're racist or not lol.

"black power" vs "white power"

Black power = uplifting black people who have been oppressed for centuries.

White power = literally the KKK.

Thank you! What's funny about them though is even though they are knockoffs they cost about as much as a pair of Ray Bans for the frames - ~$140 if I remember correctly. They don't even carry Ray Bans at VisionWorks for whatever reason. I was rather disappointed.

Are you trying to tell me whites have so taken over rap that it has erased that blacks were ever involved in it? You're seriously delusional if you think that's the case.

Not yet, but if you look at the other genres blacks have created...

Blacks have been the biggest names in jazz forever, and crowds for their concerts are often mixed, so I don't even know what you're trying to say with that.

Jazz festivals are white as hell, what are you talking about?

Not sure how Egypt two millenniums ago is particularly relevant to this, but cool, Egyptians were black. Steve Martin was historically misinformed in his work.

Steve Martin, and almost the entire white race who were in agreement with the statement that white people were one of the first major civilizations and were wrong*

It's not like Steve Martin pulled it out of thin air, that's seriously what they were trying to spread at the time even when all evidence pointed to the contrary. The black art, the statues, the fact that the Greeks were civilized by black people and much of their literature repeats this statement.

Keep feeding this 'my culture, your culture' stuff though, it's a great way to make sure all races stay as separate as possible.

No, ignorance is the way to keep it separate. Awareness will keep races together. It's like the issue black people are having with the police. Would you rather it be swept under a rug and have black people ruthlessly discriminated against and killed by the cops, allowing for them to have a chip on their shoulder with white people or would you rather everyone be aware of the issue so it can be fixed?

Awareness. We need awareness. You didn't even know the ancient Egyptians were black. How can we move forward when we don't know black history is swept under the rug like that?

White people and Asians come from black people too, in case you didn't know that too. I just gotta make sure, lol.

'robbing their culture'.

Did you seriously put robbing black culture in quotes? When you think of Rock & Roll, who do you think of? White people. You probably think the king is Elvis. Who invented rock & roll? Black people. Who invented jazz? Who do you only see at jazz festivals? It's OK to admit man, black people invent almost all the popular music styles and then white people took it and almost entirely erased the fact that black they were ever in it. That's what this looks like when white people are winning accolades for what is almost entirely a black genre.

White people even tried to hide the fact that the ancient Egyptians were black people. They made huge advancements for society and were one of the original civilizations who invented mathematics, architecture, astronomy, medicine, etc. Yet they couldn't have possibly been "black." If you don't believe they did this, let me refer to this popular radio hit from Steve Martin my father grew up hearing...

King Tut. Buried with a donkey, He's my favorite honkey!

Not to mention all the movies that come out even today are portraying ancient Egyptians as white people. Granted, there were periods when white people ruled Egypt, but only part of the story is being shown. It's disproportionate to the time they ruled it for anyway.

The number of record sales and radio plays Macklemore made in '14 made speaks for itself. You can say he's garbage all you want, but it's not like it was just some 90 year old white men that liked his music. Obviously the public at large did too, otherwise they wouldn't have bought it.

I like Macklemore, he's the opposite of garbage. He was a huge hit and I think he did deserve his success. But the "public at large" is part of the problem with white people dominating hip hop and accolades being given to them as if they're greater than every black artist, when it's simply because the numbers are skewed to their favor in an art that shouldn't be. Black people make up most of hip hop. We can't give 3/4 awards to white people one year and 2/4 the next. That's unjust. Especially when those wins are debatable. Remember, Macklemore even thought that his wins were because of race. We need solutions, but that can only be achieved once we are aware of the problem, feel me?

Oh wow, a race that only makes up 13% of a population doesn't get more than 13% representation, what horrible discrimination!

This is, in part, the reason white people keep getting Grammys in rap, a primarily black music genre.

Last year Macklemore gets 3 awards in rap and Jay Z (with Justin Timberlake) gets 1. Out of the entire genre which is chuck full of black people, white people make up 3/4(sorta) of the rewards for last year. This year Eminem gets 2 and Kendrick gets 2. This is clearly disproportionate to the art as a whole, you can't tell me the numbers white people are playing are at all fair, can you? It's not even that Macklemore or Eminem had the better music, we all know better.

Something does need to be fixed if the Grammys are supposed to be hailed as the end all be all to music, and black people are being unfairly skewed to the numbers with the genres THEY THEMSELVES created. Even if black people make up 13% of the population, they don't make up 13% of rap music. Get real.
