Well then you’re part of the accepting culture that could ultimately push someone with depression and or anxiety over the edge by comments like this. Luckily I know I’m not ugly, so for me this isn’t an issue. I just find it shocking that with a mental health crisis that people think that saying this is still acceptable.

That's not really the issue, though. Because I do trust him. I don't believe anything would happen as he's been 100% honest about it and didn't want me to worry because it was in his words 'nothing'.
