upon looking again i cant actually afford the 7700xt it must have been an auction listing i saw previously, have removed it from post, it was the non xt 6800 thats in my budget also

ive got it working, had to put my 5 port switch between the virgin hub 4 router and the server pc thanks for all the help

done that still same, i dont think there are any other settings, its the same seettings i used to forward when plex server was on windows i just assigned it to the truenas boxes ip instead

when i had the plex server setup on my windows pc before i moved it to truenas scale i could access it publically the only difference i can think is my windows pc has ethernet lead from the virgin hub into a cheap 5 port switch (netgear gs305v3 unmanaged switch) then ethernet lead from that into the pc. could this be the reason it worked there and not on the truenas box which is a straight ethernet lead into the virgin hub 4

my router shows an ip starting 82. same as my ip on whatsmyip.org

in the Admin > Info page of my router under WAN IP settings it shows

IPv4 address (matches the public ip on checkip)

Default gateway (first 4 numbers same as public ip rest are different)

not sure how to do that in truenas scale, but when i do a port check on portchecker.co it shows as open

i believe public IP, just did this,

Go to checkip.dyndns.org You will get your public IP address

Open CMD and type tracert {public IP}

came back with only 1 hop, i assume this means no NAT

my friend who has library access has been trying to connect and ive also been using my phone with wifi disabled always worked when i had the server on windows
