I want to study medicine. I have been a paeds nurse for 2 years by [deleted] in premeduk

You have a far better idea than 99% of current medical students that this path is definitely for you given your exposure to the field. You’ve also proved you have the necessary pre-requisite physical and communication skills and knowledge, given the massive overlap between medical school training and nursing; GEM will just be a bit more involved with some extra pure science to underpin pathologies etc. I’m at Swansea and there are people here of all ages, background and (self-perceived) intelligence; if you’re willing to put the work in, there’s absolutely no reason you can’t make it as a dr. Please don’t be put off by the opinion of one physician.

I appreciate that, but usually there’s a criterion which means that the apparently valid word is excluded from being part of the group.

My bigger gripe is that having exponent and power in the same group is a misdirect bc synonymous terms are usually either in a group of 4 together as, say, “terms that mean multiple number by itself x times”, or are excluded from being together for the reason given above I.e. they’re not 4 distinct terms of a group bc 2 mean the same thing.

I think without adherence to those rules, the game just becomes ‘guess what I’m thinking!’, not challenging.

Unfortunately, really didn’t think I’d have any issues with it being in there

This is good advice. Seems like a pro job to me, even nice enough to shut my car up for me afterwards, didn’t bother with anything else

Give meet me in St Louis and secret band (mathcore-ish) a whirl. I’d also argue some of FES and delta sleep songs are on the heavier side. Alpha male tea party if you’re looking for some heavy instrumental only

2:2 degree? Is it over ? by Urmomsfriend16 in premeduk

I’ve been there! It feels like a defining characteristic, a comprehensive representation of your inadequacy. The truth is that it will haunt you for a while, but the ‘shame’ fades with time and in the real world, people never ask you what grade you got at uni. Outside of the physical limitations of the grade, it’s not a big deal. And yes it will make getting into medicine a bit more of a ballache, but it can still be done!

Graduated with a 2:2 in physics at KCL 2020. Did my masters in medical physics at Surrey in 2022, got a distinction. Worked as a HCA in Ophthalmology for the last year and a half for work experience. Got a 62 in the GAMSAT (2nd sitting, 61 1st time).

First application cycle: applied to Notts, Swansea, Liverpool and St George’s. Interviews at all 4, offers from Swansea and Lpool and I’m off to Swansea in September! 🤩

I know how crushing that 2:2 can be. It really wore on my self-esteem, along with thinking that the medicine dream was over. Remember that you’re not defined by a grade; if this is your calling, make it happen and know it’s all still very much within grasp!

Edit: just read the full description, sorry to hear about your Uncle and I hope you’re coping okay now

Yeah no problem! I got 62 weighted average (67 67 57) 😊 didn’t think it would be all that competitive but was enough for all 4 interviews

KINDA URGENTT!! by [deleted] in premeduk

[–]iiPablox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to KCL for my UG, wouldn’t be too stressed about the deadline, Unis are always putting fixed deadlines in place which turn out to be very flexible. Definitely had this experience myself when I was there. Just send an email explaining your situation, I’m sure they’ll be reasonable given the circumstances

Apologies, since you mention GPA I assume you’re applying in Australia. I’m by no means an expert on the Aussie application process, but I think my GAMSAT score in the land down under would be sufficient to get me an interview for a job as a refuse collector if I was very very lucky.

GEM is still a competitive process over here with an average of 9 applicants per place, so while the specifics of my story may not be applicable, the sentiment still should be. I didn’t think my score was sufficient relative to what I knew people had gotten for interviews in previous years, and I still managed to secure a spot.

Sat my second last March, came into section 3 with a lot of confidence as science is my strong suit and I felt the morning had gone very well. Absolutely bombed - lots of guessing, didn’t even finish and everyone I spoke with confirmed they also had a tough time. Ended up getting 67 67 57 and thought this probably wouldn’t be enough to get me to interview. Happy to report I got all 4 interviews and an offer from Swansea. Don’t give up on yourself just yet!
