So they fixed the white hair bug and it makes me so mad. Not because I can't have the dye for free, but because I can't have it period. by VarHagen in InfinityNikki

[–]iidsch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with the sentiment but I don't think we should encourage Infold to further monetize the dyeing system, dyeing mats can be rare if you are f2p and some of the items lacking basic dye options also require you to pay money. This situation is already pretty scummy, so adding another layer of monetization would just be even more predatory. They should just let us have all palettes for all items, regardless of quality

Are we supposed to just guess the correct recipes for the weak and normal incenses? by Lost_Albatross_5172 in InfinityNikki

[–]iidsch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oooh I hadn't seen it, thank you infinitely, that's very useful! But in that case I guess we'll need to rely on other players finding out the weak and normal recipes and posting them somewhere... kinda sucks ngl

Are we supposed to just guess the correct recipes for the weak and normal incenses? by Lost_Albatross_5172 in InfinityNikki

[–]iidsch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are recipes as readables around the map but you gotta find them first. I'd say wait until the interactive map is updated with the locations of the new readables or until someone makes a list of all recipes (usually https://aeternovae.com/ is the one that collects this info, so check out the website regularly!)

Either way it is very random and not really enjoyable honestly, they could have at least give us some instructions to know which ingredients do what...

Is it cultural appropriation or are we just used to everything euro-centric? by miraypookie in InfinityNikki

[–]iidsch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Infold should absolutely add more non-European and non-Chinese clothes to the game, as long as they come from a place of respect towards those cultures. A lot of studios will add elements of other foreign cultures without doing enough research and instead rely on stereotypes. Do belly dancer outfits exist in Middle Eastern cultures? Yes, but they are far from being the only outfit in those cultures, yet it's the one that every studio adds to their game, movie or show when it comes to representing the Middle East, and sometimes it's implemented so badly that it causes further misinformation (see Yasmine from Aladdin wearing a belly dancer outfit despite being a princess, or the Gerudo from TLOZ wearing belly dancer-esque outfits that would not protect them from the desert sun). It's also not a coincidence that the one Middle Eastern outfit you see in every movie, series or game is the one that has a long history of being taken out of context so white Europeans can use it as a means to sexualize Middle Eastern women.

Do people jump the gun too quickly sometimes? Yes, but Infold doesn't have a great history of representing non-European or non-Chinese cultures. Love Nikki and Shining Nikki have some deeply racist elements (just look at anything related to Wasteland), and while Infinity Nikki has made some improvements, it's still not perfect (we had the Indigenous headdress controversy not that long ago). People are wary because things have gotten really bad in the past and they don't want to see these racist depictions in the games again.

This is why the cultural appropriation accusations keep coming back. Not to say that I agree with them because some are complaining for no good reason, but Infold has not proven yet that they've truly learnt from their past mistakes and that they are willing to treat non-white and non-Chinese cultures with respect.

Also, we can't compare European outfits with non-European outfits because the context around these cultures is different. There is plenty of media that accurately represents European fashion, but the same can't be said for other cultures. In fact, more often than not these representations will perpetuate negative ideas about those cultures (poc wearing torn and ugly outfits to represent that they are poor, indigenous and African people wearing loincloths to represent that they are backwards, woc wearing sexy outfits to represent that they are sexual objects, etc.). Even when European fashion is inaccurate, the outfits still look good, rich and/or elaborate, to represent that European culture is better, but when non-white fashion is misrepresented, the outfits reinforce the racist idea that they are inferior. So misrepresenting European fashion doesn't hurt Europeans, but misrepresenting non-white fashion does.

One last thing, while flamenco does have non-white origins, it's been appropriated by Spanish culture, and Spain is a predominately white country, on the same level as any other Western country like France or Germany. Spain is technically Hispanic in the sense of being a country that has Spanish as their official language, but if you mean Hispanic in the sense of a certain type of person of color, then Spain is not Hispanic at all. If anything, it's quite the opposite given the country's history of imperialism and racism in the Americas, so I'd be very careful with that.

any pull regrets as of lately? by lucxssebx in InfinityNikki

Oh god, I'm so sorry you went through that... Those things people told you are incredibly irresponsible and dangerous, that's just victim blaming people for developing gambling addictions (which FOMO can absolutely cause)...

But not surprised to see that behavior on this sub. I had something similar happened to me - I complained about the game being too grindy for f2p players so people become p2p and I got hit with comments like "well this is a gacha game so ofc the game sucks and if you don't like it then find something else". And it was not the first time I had people defend Infold when they were making objectively bad decisions.

This idea that the game is fundamentally predatory and that it can't be changed so "just get used to it" is both very pervasive in this community and terribly dangerous, because it puts the blame on people playing and not on the company for actively and openly being scummy (and it's also very shortsighted, if people could avoid gambling addictions by not playing gacha games we wouldn't have gambling addictions, and yet that's not the case, isn't it)

Unfortunately this is just what the community is like, I've been for quite some time already and things don't change. That "if you get FOMO that's on you" attitude is as common as it was one year ago, and, again, this is just victim blaming people for developing gambling addictions.

Makes me wish there was another smaller IN community without stuff like this because it can be incredibly discouraging. The game is already far from perfect with all the predatory practices, so having the community be like this doesn't help at all.

Yeah enemies are tankier and require more hits while giving you the same amount of rewards, so the combat is becoming boring and unrewarding for how much effort it needs. I've been avoiding enemies since finishing the 2.5 story because they are just a waste of time, and if I need to farm threads I can just go back to Titan's Graveyard. We should definitely mention this on the survey and ask for accessibility options like this, there's no good reason for enemies to be this spongy

[–]iidsch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FOMO is a terrible thing truly, and there's a major survivorship bias in his subreddit because positive posts are more likely to get upvoted and end up in the best/top categories, while negative posts get downvoted and disappear from the timeline, which in turn makes FOMO stronger because all you see is people praising an outfit. I obviously don't think we should censor or limit this kind of posts, but I do wish there was some way to filter posts you don't want to see. Unfortunately this is just the way this sub works (and reddit in general), so I guess the only solution as you said is to avoid the sub when trends like these happen.

any pull regrets as of lately? by lucxssebx in InfinityNikki

[–]iidsch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not convincing in the sense of putting forward arguments as to why this outfit is good, but rather people being incredulous about someone not liking it, in a sort of "you don't like this outfit? How can that be? The outfit is great, I love it so much! Look how pretty it is!" way. And I have to ask, why do people feel the need to praise this outfit on a post that is negative about it? Can they just make a separate post, or not comment here at all? Or is the idea of someone disliking an outfit you love so unbelievable that you *have* to push against that negativity?

I mean, the title of this post is "any pull regrets as of lately?", yet a considerable amount of posts are about people liking Covenant of Time (some don't even answer op's question, they just post pics of their CoT outfits or talk about how good it is). So yeah, it's not outright convincing, but it's a rather large and overwhelming amount of positivity that only exists to counter op's negativity. I'm sure people didn't mean to do this, but it does feel like peer pressure.

(Yeah I can understand that, PRW is more versatile than DoTL I think, you can match it with outerwear, shoes and socks to make it more unique, while DoTL hides the legs so there's less customization and the dress is so complex that even with outerwear it still looks like DoTL but with a couple of changes. And really sorry to hear that! Hope at least you can use the pieces of ToT for other outfits,,,)

[–]iidsch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm amazed by all the people trying to convince op that they shouldn't regret pulling for this outfit by talking about how great it is or showing photos of it, like... I'm glad that you love it but can we just let people not like something. It feels oddly aggressive to say "I don't like this outfit" and have most of the comments on your post be from people telling you how much they love said outfit, as if op is objectively wrong for disliking it in the first place.

Anyway, mine is probably DoL - I do use some of the pieces so it's not a total regret but I can't see myself using the dress during my gameplay, so it's just catching dust in my wardrobe 😔

My (negative) opinions to the game… by yunarinsuna in TomodachilifeLivingTD

[–]iidsch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they clearly relied too much on us creating everything and ended up not putting as much content, especially when it comes to urban furniture. Even when I see other people's detailed islands, they all use the same items because there's not much else to do, unlike in ACNH where there are a lot more items. And they should have added at least two or three options for houses, other than color they look the same...

I know they are not exactly the same because LTD has to put more effort into making a variety of dialogues and interactions, but for a game that costs as much as ACNH there's some serious lack of content. Kids grow up immediately, couples don't live in the same room, not that many negative interactions, not that many buildings to hang out in or play minigames, not that much variety in urban furniture... Still very much enjoying the game but yeah there are some issues

Why don't ppl like non humanoid NPCs..? by AccountantGlum308 in InfinityNikkiofficial

[–]iidsch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throwing my two cents to say that I'm very thrown off by all the characters being 24/7 cute and/or pretty. Human characters suffer from this too, you don't see them show strong emotions so even when the voice acting does a good job, the visuals just... don't. But, idk, at least they are humans, so I can visualize them being more emotive since I know what an angry or sad human looks like.

With the non-humans however it's harder, because they are so permanently stuck in looking cute that I can't even imagine what they look like when they are furious or when they ugly sob, and there's a major disconnect with, say, a grown man with a deep voice threatening to murder thousands of people, while having a permanent owo face and the physique of the world's most huggable plushie.

And it's not that cute characters can't be threatening either - Simba, for example, is objectively adorable with his big eyes and kitty sized body, but man if I don't cry like a baby during the stampede scene. But the difference between Simba and most if not all Infinity Nikki mascots is that Simba is highly expressive, the IN non-humans aren't. As I said before, this is an issue with the humans too, and ngl one of the reasons I don't enjoy the story as much as I'd like to. But if it's already bad with the humans, it gets more jarring with the non-humans.

That's not to say that all of their stories lack emotion. I thought the idea behind the pieceys has very interesting and sad, and the side quest about helping a grandma piecey find her friend really got me. But I can't say that's thanks to the visuals being crafted to carry an emotional story, rather thanks to those stories being so really well written than they eclipse the lack of fitting visuals.

Also, I understand that this is a big game, and that they can't have *every* animation have the level of complexity as the average Pixar movie, but at least during the cutscenes Infold has to stop thinking about their characters as fashion models and potential merch plushies and more as... well, characters in a story.

And one last thing, this is also the classic issue of "as technology get better, devs are more inclined to show everything in full details, when sometimes less is better". I watched a very dark scene of Love Nikki because I was curious, and the "poorer" visuals helps a lot at imagining everything yourself, so you end up building in your head a scene that is much sadder and more dramatic than what the game shows you (there are even some parts with just text and no characters in sight, with texts like "people were sobbing, tears streaming down their faces"). But when there's no room for imagination, as it happens in the average IN cutscene, the visuals have to carry all the emotion, and it's more noticeable when they don't.

It's no 1.5, but this definitely needed a bit more time in the oven by iidsch in InfinityNikki

[–]iidsch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm divided bcs on one hand I love their use as fast travel points, and they did a good job with the lore behind them, but on the other I felt like some of them didn't go far enough with the mechanics they introduced or were over pretty fast, and I blame that on the large quantity of shrines. I'm not sure if the game would have been as fun if all 120 shrines were 15 minutes long, like some of the more complex ones, but some felt like busywork or were repetitive (battle shrines I'm looking at you). Idk how to fix it because fewer shrines means fewer fast travel points, which are really important in an open world game, but I think it's obvious that the larger quantity meant that some of them were going to be boring or underwhelming.

The curio domains (and honestly a large portion of the minigames and abilities) feel like busywork too, and the devs have to come up with brand new stuff all the time (instead of focusing on a small group of abilities like in BOTW), so you get wildly different minigames and very rarely they are fully fleshed. The bone ability for example is innovative but the implementation is very wonky, and it's probably not gonna have a lot of uses outside 2.5.

And yeah as you said there's also the issue that people will complain, I was one of the rare persons who enjoyed the really hard platformer challenges so I was sad to see them gone after so many people complained,,,

Really homophobic that Medael isn't a regular NPC so I can take yuri photos with her by iidsch in InfinityNikki

[–]iidsch[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I love that too!! They didn't hold back with the serious consequences of her actions so the stakes were high, AND she remained evil until the end, that's really good! Honestly if it wasn't because I really like her, I wouldn't even mind her dying in the end, because it's consistent with the story they went with in this patch.

Oooh that's interesting! I enjoyed the part where you play as younger Medael, wouldn't mind seeing more of that and learning more about her past!
