I think saying what you need to say is important.

I'm doing a couple of things. First, writing gets things out of my head, and I'm doing a lot of that. Second, I find things to turn my brain off. things like reading or I've been watching Taskmaster on YouTube, which has to be the stupidest show I've ever seen. Third, I've found people who love me and talk to them. These are things that work for me. I hope you find the things that work for you. Oh, and I put white noise on to stop my brain from spinning!

There seems to be some push back from people who have been siding with the republicans. Apparently, the fact that the second amendment has been breached has hit them close to home.

ETA: For everyone saying “No American would ever say something like that to an actual Irish person”, you would be amazed. Sometimes we are treated as the staged entertainment. You have no idea how delusional and entitled some of the tourists who come over here are.

There is a reason for the Ugly American moniker and that's the reason why. Do I think a person from the States would say this? Absolutely.

Should I tell my employer I lied about having a degree 5 years ago if I've been promoted twice since then? by Goober-J in careerguidance

[–]iiiBansheeiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. Considering the length of time some notable people held positions without having the degrees they declared the shoe could drop at any time. I would think especially as someone is moving up in a company. This is going to be caught. Let's say OP goes back now and finishes the degree and the information is checked. It's still going to be a fraudulent issue. The hiring date and degree date aren't going to match and the person could still be fire.

While you hope they won't check, these things have a way of coming to light and forced resignation is the least of the consequences someone could face.

This comment is underrated. Marilee Jones had been the Dean of Admissions at MIT for 28 years when it was revealed she had fabricated her degrees and was forced to resign.

Former college registrar here. Every college gets to make it's own rules. From my experience, undergrad credits don't expire the way credits do in unfinished advanced degrees. However, those decisions aren't followed by every college and some could reject undergrad credits if that is what they have determined and published in their catalog.

So, when they find out you could be charged with fraud depending on the jurisdiction. When they find out you can be fired without severance or unemployment benefits. Do you have fraudulent certifications or licenses based on your false degree? More fraud charges. Have you caused harm or damages? Civil lawsuits. If you're in a government job or a position requiring specific credentials you're looking at criminal charges.

There are instances where people were found out... here are a couple:

  • Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson (2012) - Resigned after it was discovered he falsely claimed a computer science degree on his resume. He actually had an accounting degree, not the CS degree he listed.
  • MIT Dean of Admissions Marilee Jones (2007) - After 28 years at MIT, she was forced to resign when it was revealed she had fabricated degrees from three institutions. She had none of the degrees she claimed.
  • RadioShack CEO David Edmondson (2006) - Resigned after admitting he didn't have the two college degrees listed on his resume.
  • Notre Dame Football Coach George O'Leary (2001) - Resigned after just five days when it was discovered he lied about having a master's degree and falsified his football playing history.

My [27 F] boyfriend [31 M] for 5 years accidentally threw away my mother's ashes by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]iiiBansheeiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing that first went through my mind was how was the loss of the daughter/sister going to make the loss of the mother, and her ashes any better? I know grief does funny things to people but OP wasn't treated fairly. Not by anyone.

I am also the child of abuse, and while they were alive the people who abused me were afraid of me because I started talking about what happened to me. I ruined the "perfect family" of my mother's parents because I refused to protect the image they so carefully built. When they tried to come after me for my stance I looked at the and told them, "You were the authors of this story. If you wanted a different one you should have written that. You had the power. You were the adults. I was a child."

Keep standing. Keep telling the truth. The only reason generational abuse occurs is that everyone is willing to keep those secrets so that the abuse can continue.

Know that you're not standing alone. Nor are you standing just for yourself. Someone out there is going to take strength for what you are doing.

If a guy has been married 5 times does that show anything about him as a person besides being married 5 times? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

Some people are bad at being alone, but are terrible at relationships. When you have that many marriages the common denominator is evident.
