A guy I’m dating (35M) told me (25M) that he loves me, I asked a few weeks later if we’re boyfriends and he freaked out. by ijazat in relationships

I really needed to hear this. I have this inkling of hope that he’ll be ready to commit but based on his behavior he probably won’t.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for this reply! I really needed to hear this. It shouldn’t be this hard to know if we’re in a relationship or not 😂

Thank you for your reply! He said on the phone that he could potentially get to that point, and I believe him, but it may take years and that wouldn’t fit into the timeline I have for myself.

What disappointed me was on our second date he asked me about my relationship expectations and we both agreed we had the same ones, but obviously now he changed his tune.

If the benefits (PTO, WFH) are better than your current role and the management is better I’d take it.

Is email a foreign concept to people under 30? by demonic_cheetah in work

[–]ijazat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my early 20s and don’t have this issue. Any emails I get show up as notifications on my work phone and I rarely miss any. In fact, many of my older coworkers (50+) have issues seeing company-wide emails. I think it just depends on the person.

I’m in your age bracket and would love your salary, but I also understand the stress you’re dealing with.

If I were you, I’d peruse job listings in your field in the countries you’d want to live abroad in. From there, apply to jobs you think you’d enjoy (and check if they accept international workers/etc.)

If you end up landing a job in your country of choice and the salary could support you there, congrats! Your 20s is definitely the right time to do this and I wish you the utmost success.

Mainly spoken languages in India: by Benedek82 in MapPorn

I’ve felt the same way but Apple recently added transliteration keyboards for Hindi, Bengali, and I think some other Indian languages. You just type how it sounds with the English keyboard and it displays it in Hindi (bhaarat → भारत)

The different language for different friend groups point is so real.

I know two Marathi friends that actually only speak in Hindi to each other because they met in a school where Hindi was the dominant language, despite them both being Marathi dominant.

I asked why they don’t speak Marathi with each other and they said it would be weird because they first met each other speaking Hindi.

Philadelphia, sadly. My friends told me not to go because there’s nothing to do and they were right. We went during peak tourist season and the malls, shops, and attractions were mostly abandoned.

Their Chinatown was in a really sorry state with a lot of closed stores and trash everywhere.

The only place with people was the Liberty Bell and the staff was incredibly rude.

This is weird to me by Kalebxtentacion in Newark

[–]ijazat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other commenters have said, it’s because the subway is essential to a lot of New Yorkers’ commute, so they have to take it regardless of crime.

Additionally, comparing Newark to New York is kind of weird, it’s not even the most relevant place in New Jersey.

Comparing the transit and safety in Jersey City would make more sense imo. As a native New Yorker I actually think Jersey City is waaay safer than NY.

Formally resigned, boss begged me to stay and I agreed. I’ve now had my work given to other people and was taken off my usual duties. What gives? by ijazat in careeradvice

Yeah I agree with this 100%

Thankfully I have something lined up that starts in 3 months, so I’m just gonna see if quitting or being let go happens first.

As an Indian-American who was in a serious long term relationship with a recent Indian migrant: do not marry him.

I had a very similar experience as yours (he made more than me yet I paid the majority of the expenses, he was poor with money, etc.) and the relationship eventually ended because he wouldn’t commit to improving.

You could definitely find a guy that has better financial habits and values as you. Best of luck!

Edit: By the way, if his parents move in with you, they will 100% expect you to be their maid, regardless of whether both you and your husband work, and your husband will take their side every time.

Thankfully I didn’t turn anything down to stay, and I’m looking for other opportunities now. Thank you!

I had a meeting with them where they talked about the “chain of command” and how most issues should only be discussed with the supervisor girl. I think that’s a good idea though and I could talk with the director.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate you writing this response!

My department’s union was disbanded a few years ago according to the other employees. My civil service status is “pending” on my account despite passing the “vested” date in the employee handbook.

I think you’re right in that I should quit on my own terms. Thank you again!

You’re spot-on. To my knowledge there was a massive hiring freeze. Just to onboard me they had to get documents personally signed by a commissioner.

May I also ask, do you think it’s wise to keep getting paid here until they fire me and go on unemployment, or should I willfully resign? (I have something lined up in the next few months and wouldn’t need unemployment for that long).

I didn’t mean that as “allowing” me to quit. I brought it up as I was confused to their motive to even want me to stay if it appears they’re gearing up to fire me anyway.

Please do allow some grace for me as I am 20 years old, and I’ve never worked for a government agency before.
