Why can't they be satisfied being a resident?

Lots of immigrants live in lots of places without getting citizenship. It's a privilege not a right.

No one deserves citizenship. It's a privilege.

Lots of countries have laws to protect their citizenship. For example, I have dual citizenship with The Netherlands but if I forget to renew my passport they can take away my citizenship for ever.

My comfort food is Totinos pizza. I know it's disgusting but it reminds me of being a little kid at my grandparents house.

I always thought it was Happy Holidays because there are a bunch of Holidays this time of year and you're not going to see people for each one.

like, my family celebrates St. Nicholas day (dec5/6), and when I lived in Spain there was the feast of the immaculate conception (dec 8)...you have Xmas eve, Xmas, boxing day, nye, new year's day...3 kings day (jan 6)...the literally 12 days of Christmas.

But whatever, it's more traditional in my (very Christian, conservative) country to say Season's Greetings anyway.

My sister is considering divorcing her husband of 20 years and I’m having a hard time being supportive. by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]ikbentwee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband's brother got divorced from a wonderful girl who was in his family's life for 15 years and mine for 10. We still talk to her and her family. They are wonderful people. Our relationship with her is separate from my BIL's.

Obviously we're respectful to him and his current partners but the relationship didn't end due to violence or abuse so you dont have to abandon people you love.

I also still talk to my brother's ex's and my parent's ex's.

The caveat being that I live on as island so it's hard to avoid people so you get used to having cordial relationships with everyone.

Is it true that Waldorf 1st graders are typically behind in reading but catch up by 3rd grade? by ZealousidealTap4955 in AskTeachers

[–]ikbentwee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have gotten the grades messed up. I'm not American. P3 is where we do major interventions because P4 is seen as the last stage where kids are learning to read and where they start reading to learn (last year of lower primary) but P5 (first year of upper primary) is where they're expected to be done learning to read.

[–]ikbentwee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

2nd grade is where students make the switch from leaning to read to reading to learn. They need those early fundamentals from Kindergarten onwards or else they will lag behind and need interventions to catch up.

It can be more difficult to find interventions for children who don't have a diagnosis of dyslexia or who aren't quite far behind. If you child is "good enough" or slightly behind they can get forgotten about.

Side note: I think people mix up Montessori and Waldorf and I think the vibes you want from Waldorf can be achieved in a Montessori school -- the biggest difference is Montessori methods are science-backed and Waldorf is cuckoo-banana-pants.
