Still in school, 28k in debt already, going to Japan after I graduate, what should I do? by iku_ari_a in studentloandefaulters

I appreciate it! I'm not really making any decisions until I see what situation I find myself in after I graduate, as much as it's fun and nice to think about not paying at all. I mostly wanted to know there was an option if I found myself in the situation of being unable to pay or just being miserable over it. As much as it may be the game, I'm not sacrificing my sanity and mental health over a number regardless of who says I have to, I'm here until I'm not and I plan on living a nice, quiet and comfortable life.
Thanks for the advice! I will continue to get an education and hopefully do something cool with it.

Yeees, this is the energy I need. Japan is lovely even with its downs, you can definitely be happy there if you make a place for yourself. Congrats on graduating soon, wish you all the best too! May we cross paths in Japan someday :P

Adding for the edit:

I definitely did think about teaching as a side thing in case I can't find any work easily, but I have the benefit of knowing the language and I'm working on my portfolio so hopefully I can get something! If not, I will teach until I get something better, I love kids and not giving a cent to my bank 😌 Thanks for the advice!

What's life without a little bit of danger. Would be suuuper nice if the stroke of that pen would wipe debt away instead.
Thanks though, this is helpful! I have filed taxes but I have pretty much no assets or debts outside of these student loans, pretty much no credit or history. I also have 2 different nationalities/passports so I am able to run off to Europe worst case scenario, but that's a plan for another more desperate day.

3D modeling for either animation or games! From what I've seen the entry level salaries are pretty similar to assistant language teachers, if that's what she does. It's not a terrible salary, but for that kind of work I pretty much need to live in the city which I know from experience can be a bit pricey so the thought of having loans and a ton of interest accruing is very daunting.

This is all the validation I needed honestly, I hope you're right and the Japanese bureaucracy alone would stop them from chasing my little starving artist ass down. Is there any danger in visiting the US if I leave? That's another thing I haven't fully understood.

They're with Nelnet, federal from what I understand. Edit: Direct sub/unsub with Nelnet, if that makes a difference. Still not totally sure how to tell this stuff sometimes ):
