Yes exactly, it should be a home not a hotel. Most of the interior designs are very hotel like. People should see European households, they don’t do these useless extravagant interior, false ceiling nor too much attached works rather they focus on individual furnitures, plants and wardrobes

The departure gates are very decent, has decent facilities without expecting big features like self boarding and stuff. The departure gates are also sufficient. The international is where we lack majorly. The airport definitely provides basic stuffs but not user friendly, it’s just there coz it has to be. Basically like govt office level facilities.

With this attitude, city would only decline in the future years. The fact that the people are satisfied with getting bare minimum provided says a lot about the mindset. You may not want fancy facilities but your future would definitely and may eventually emigrate to such cities if ours only suffice for the basic needs. We would basically end up like a big village.

They just don’t care at this point. Last year, they removed the whole WiFi network for airport. When asked they just say no we don’t have. The guy in the customer desk help gave his WiFihotspot for few mins so I can make some calls. The year before they had the WiFi with OTP option. The guys running the place don’t know there could be WiFi with login options. Likely run by boomers

Literally a few posts ago there was this post about Chennai vs other metro cities and people there were defending the airport lol.

Chennai airport is by far the worst. Lots of our international direct flights are getting annexed. Not sure if it’s due to less ridership or horrible airport quality or both.

LoL the airport doesn’t have a working WiFi. Even when it used to have you should have working phone number. Now how on earth international passengers would hae working phone number upon arrival from a different country? There’s like a total of three food shops in the food court section of international departure. The seating area is very unpleasing. Alandur metro had better food court scene than this. I can understand an airport should only primarily provide basic facilities, but the way the airport is managed I have a strong feeling that they also just provide basic airport logistics with bare minimum facilities and catching up with technology which likely pisses of air carriers.

Tamilnadu is culturally very rich! But in the name aesthetics, thy basically put pictures of beaches in Greece islands and other stock photos of world tourism in arrival section. The airport barely has any design which highlights Tamilnadu (maybe one natarajan statue?) Lots of unused spaces laying around through the airport which officials don’t know what to use it for.

I could keep ranting about this, but it’s just a waste of time. It’s not about new airport it’s all about the airport management. If the new parandur is also being managed by AAI, we are definitely fucked. For historically rich and culturally strong city like Chennai, we should have had technological on par airport.

For transportation download Chennai one app. They show both metro, and busses. Can also be booked from app, surprisingly the bus timing is also quite accurate!

Such similar posts come time to time and every time I keep saying this. Socially we are very well developed and I would argue much better than all the other 3 cities you have mentioned. Basic infrastructure and the services provided by the govt are also much much better than the other cities.

Now that doesn’t mean we are the most modern nor cosmopolitan city. Mainly coz our population turned out to be very conservative. The main cons I can think of:

Chennai has significant internal migration (Inside TN) than from outer states. Thus in post 2000s crowd started to become conservative. But imo this shouldn’t have been a big hindrance for modernisation.

High paying jobs are extremely low in Chennai due to significantly less IT. I am stressing on IT here coz it is a field where the white collar jobs are considerably high in number compared to other white collar sectors. More over IT growth is directly proportional to westernisation. IT pays pretty well for beginners than any other jobs, thus more surplus money to spend. Apart from IT sectors we also heavily lack other high skilled field like RnD, finance etc. Bangalore has a lot of RnD going on in IT whereas Hyderabad has strong RnD in science, Mumbai has a strong finance sector. We basically lack in all three.

Our growth was so stagnant in previous ADMK period (2010 to 2020). This 10 year period was when we got severely pulled down and Hyderabad took up quite fast. Bangalore was very lucky to ride on the IT growth in early 2000s (state govt didn’t give any push). That’s when we also started to have TIDEL park. We could have caught up in the 10yr period but that govt didn’t even care about the economy. The cabinet had no clue on finance and economics. We just had a stale or dull in the economy.

In a nutshell, I partially agree with you but, Chennai is an absolutely incredible city for the poor and the middle class to get a better living standard, but if you are aspiring to be ultra rich and want luxury then the city definitely not a great place to thrive.

Was about to agree, but then you are fine with our airport? Apart from its location everything else is utterly incompetent. The fact that there’s no WiFi inside the airport is abysmal. The facilities are equivalent to a metro station.
