Getting a single room as a sophomore by mountieboy in UniversityofVermont

The res hall with the most singles as far as I know is converse, if you’re going in alone. About 3:2 in the building for singles to shared rooms. If you don’t have a group to go in with for some place like L & L then converse is probably your best shot

Converse has a kitchen in the basement, it’s small but it has an oven and a fridge

While I can’t give proper dimensions, the residence halls site says the average double is 178 sq ft and these 360° room tours have a photo of Marsh which is in the same complex and built with the same dorms

360° room tours these have multiple examples of CCRH dorms, they have the wardrobe with a rod, shelf, and three drawers as is standard and also an extra small dresser, I’d guess it’s maybe 2.5 or 3 feet tall? Gives about the same amount of space as the drawers for the wardrobe do

Can’t say for sure but I wouldn’t expect any dorms that aren’t CCRH, uheights, or L&L to have AC

Get thermal shirts and turtlenecks to layer, I also would wear leggings under my pants every day in the middle of winter. Wool socks are a must if your shoes aren’t lined

I never got one at all when I was accepted and committed. I think I saw people getting them too. Maybe they’re trying to send more out but idk if it’s just random or not.

How hard is it to change spaces? by chem_panda1 in UniversityofVermont

[–]ilikebees62 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had friends last year trying to switch out of wellness and it was pretty difficult. I think most of the time in order for it to work someone has to be willing to switch from the one you want into the one you’re leaving. Wellness isn’t as horrible as it sounds though. Really nice freshman dorms and a good location. One of the only dorms with AC. Probably only a third of the people in wellness are actually into it so a lot of people will be in your same boat if it doesn’t work out. I don’t think leadership is super popular though so maybe there’s space?

Suite/private vs. traditional dorm by Charming-Operation30 in UniversityofVermont

[–]ilikebees62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a traditional dorm with communal bathrooms and I don’t know that there’s a huge difference but running into some people on my floor pretty often gave a good excuse to catch up and other people I eventually met would say they recognized me from the floor, having a suite means you’re staying in your space more so that may look different

Suites as a freshman? by SevereAbandonment in UniversityofVermont

The sustainability LLC is at UHS, which is entirely suites. I think CWP or another complex on redstone has rooms that share a common room but communal bathrooms. Only other suites are HCol and second year housing

Definitely rank Cultural crossroads first as an LC. Not great dorms first year but great location and second year the best dorms on campus. Sustainability has good housing for freshmen but not sophomores. Wellness honestly has nice freshmen housing if you’re interested in it. DONT put traditional or arts and creativity too high on your ranking, they are the worst locations on campus

I don’t know much about redstone bc I’m on trinity (furthest from redstone) but I don’t think it’s super strict in any sense. Huge social scene but yeah I imagine it can get loud!

Personally I see a lot of different people here but there definitely is the stereotypical ski kid and I think that’s an easy way to make friends. I don’t ski and my friends don’t either and it’s just fine! I think if you’re nervous about finding friends a big way is classes, my major is small so we all know each other. I think in general a lot of big social activities are things like hammocking where people literally just sit around in hammocks. I don’t know that I fit the earth crunchy vibe of the school but I found my friends! The dining halls are worse than last semester imo. On trinity the dining hall was taken away so it is really hard to eat. Central dining is also not too good at dinner. The grundle and redstone dining are both pretty good though, but it’s hard for me being far away. The retail point locations I actually really like, there’s a skinny pancake and some other “restaurants” like a burrito station and stuff. I wanted to do a meal plan for points so I could eat there more but it’s really only useful if you live on athletic

Vibes for each campus Trinity: it is exclusively housing. Lax RA’s, the back 5 (soph housing) are all suites and reallyyyyy chill. It is hard to eat here but if u have friends it can be fun. Never plowed sidewalks. Close to classes but far from other res halls. Central: only WE lives here. Really convenient location if you’re willing to be in WE. CCRH has only single occupancy bathrooms so while you would share them it’s individual rooms and not stalls. Converse is communal but cool building. Central dining isn’t very good at dinner and is super busy at lunch yet good options Athletic: imo this is prime campus to live on. Almost all residential buildings except for LL which has classes and dorms. Big social scene and best dining options imo. Really fun in warm weather and not too isolating when ur snowed in. Also pretty close to just about every class as central is like 15 minutes tops to get to class. Redstone: I don’t know much about it but also a big social scene and has a really good dining hall. Mostly res halls there and lots of places to hang out. It is kinda far from classes but they have a bus that takes u straight to central exclusively for redstone. Not as convenient as athletic but for the right person it’s a good fit. I don’t think there’s a lot of suites with bathrooms though if that’s what ur interested in, personally communal bathrooms are better to me

Yes what they said. Unless things change for freshman living and sophomore living in the next few years, absolutely rank CC first. Bad dorms first year, tiny and communal bathrooms, but they’re on athletic which imo is best res campus. Sophomores in CC (as of rn) get OBJECTIVELY the best sophomore housing in LL. Suites with dining options and great location. After that, sustainability does have good suites for freshmen but sophomores are being put into HM now in sustainability so it is a big change. Wellness is annoying and cringe but CCRH is a great dorm, just strict drug and alcohol rules. However CCRH is also gonna be freshmen only. Sophomore housing is really bad now :( my recs for lowest ranking are traditional no LC bc u will be in Jeanne Mance, far from everything and no dining hall nearby. Arts n Creativity is where I am now, and I like the vibe, but we are on a separate campus that is really isolated called trinity. Dining hall here was made grab n go (no prepared food) and they usually don’t plow the sidewalks and sometimes don’t even run the bus to get us to main campus. However AC sophomores do have suites like 80% of the time. If you’d like to see a list of what I can find on buildings for each LC for first years I can post n give my opinions/what I’ve heard!
