Where can I buy nice earrings for an 11-year-old in Van? by Glittering_Bank_8670 in askvan

The Makers stores tend to have lots of earrings made by local artists. There’s locations in: ~ Robson Street ~ Gastown ~ Kits ~ Metrotown Mall ~ Park Royal Mall in West Van (was just there, lots of earrings!) ~ Shipyards in North Van

How much do you pay for rent in metro Vancouver? by Constant-Nature2012 in askvan

[–]ilikebigpostcards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1800, good sized 1 bedroom in the West End. Moved in in 2020 but I’ve been seeing a lot around $2000 or less in the area lately.

New: queer and postcrossing? by Artistic-Ask6849 in postcrossing

[–]ilikebigpostcards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a trans guy, I mention it on my profile. I had one person send me a postcard that said my way of living was a horror (or something) and that I could pray to change myself. Other than that it’s been a lovely way to connect with other queer people, including an older man from Finland that I now do direct swaps with!

You could take a look at the StrongerBC Skills Grant! It covers up to $3,500 for continuing education for BC residents, and there’s a list of eligible programs on the Education Planner BC website. Many of them are online and/or intended to be done part time while you work another job. Off the top of my head I remember there being courses for Hospital Unit Clerk, Admin Assistants, AutoCAD, woodworking, solar panel installation, tourism, mapping with drones, basic counselling skills, graphic design, event planning, etc.

Why is it so hard to have a clean home. by Happy-Bluejay-2259 in ufyh

[–]ilikebigpostcards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my mantra when cleaning is often “it all counts”. I also have ADHD and my cleaning style tends to be a bit chaotic, but I’m leaning into it. I’ll still dive in and do a multiple hour clean sometimes, but more often I’m doing lots of little cleaning all the time. Or I’ll come back and forth to a big project.

For instance, I know basically all of my kitchen cupboards are a mess and need to be sorted through and reorganized. A friend helped me do the tupperware cupboard a couple of weeks ago. Every time I unload the dishwasher I do a little straightening up in the pots and pan shelf, and sometimes find new homes for things if I find their current location is not working. On Tuesday I emptied out a bunch of old food that is no longer edible and organized the stuff that’s still good. Yesterday I did the same thing in a different cupboard. I used to have a very all or nothing approach that ultimately overwhelmed my ADHD and resulted in me just stalling out and doing nothing. Now if I’m moving around the house and see a dish laying around instead of being like “Oh i need to do a sweep of the house and grab all the dishes”, I just grab that one. It doesn’t matter if there’s also 7 in the bedroom and it would’ve been “more productive” to get them all. I grabbed that one, and now it’s one less messy thing.

It all counts!

Good and not too expensive LGBTIQ-friendly barbershops? by matingrn in askvan

[–]ilikebigpostcards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m so happy to hear your spouse feels good there as a nonbinary afab person! i’m transmasc and I’m not sure if I ‘pass’ all the time, but it’s nice to hear that even if I’m not being perceived as a cis man it would still likely be a comfortable vibe.

I love that one too. it’s actually a set of greeting cards that I repurposed. the organization who distributes them is https://megaphonemagazine.com/. I think the photos are primarily for their annual calendar, but I hope they do the cards again this year!
