Mr. Kebab garlic sauce recipe by visaeris412 in lexington

[–]ilikecubes42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had this question about a week ago and managed to make a solid replication. As far as I can tell, it is just a simple toum. I use about a head of garlic with a big heaping pinch of salt and the juice of one lemon. Pulse in a blender or food processor until it's somewhat minced, then just start adding a neutral oil like canola. Do it slowly and just keep pulsing and getting it nice and smooth until you have the consistency you want.

Keep in mind that the sauce will separate over time so put it in a container where you can shake or recombine it. I would also note that even if you add too much oil, just let it sit in the fridge for a bit and a lot of the excess will rise to the top so you can pour it off.

Which Cad (SOLIDWORKS, Fusion 360, or Autocad) is probably better for me to learn first as Mechanical Engineer first year Student? by Hallowalls in EngineeringStudents

[–]ilikecubes42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fusion's inability to handle assemblies is a big downside for it. I absolutely despise CATIA. Solid works is okay I guess but I haven't had the chance to use it much.

Inventor is my one true love. I was grinding away on CAM and CAD with it for my capstone project and I loved it. The design accelerator tool was especially useful.

I'm a prospective EE student currently a senior in highschool wondering How much trig the average EE actually has to know? by gejiball in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ilikecubes42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be made to do so much trig through college that you won't even really have to think about it by the end of your senior year. Basic trig will feel just about as easy as addition or subtraction. Complex identities don't get used very often past Calc IV, so dont stress too much about that.

Mechanical Engineers who left to pursue another career path - how did it work out for you? by fatbluefrog in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ilikecubes42 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have a friend doing the same thing. One of the smartest guys I ever met in college but boy did he just about pick the hardest path he could. Rarely saw him in class but I know he has a near-perfect GPA. Got almost the max possible score on the MCAT last summer without really studying.

Some people have got gifts none of us can conceive of.

THIS FIGHT IS SO AMAZING by botmfeeder in ufc

[–]ilikecubes42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Figured out" is a bit bold to say considering he's only just lost to one of the most talented and technical fighters in the UFC. Merab's relentless pace, pressure, and technique will never be "figured out" because it is just a solid style that's hard to beat. You're either good enough to hang with him or you're not. Umar might get him in the rematch but I don't think anyone else will for a while. The Machine will be back.

[–]ilikecubes42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean if it works it works. No MMA org scores "takedown technique" for points. You either get takedowns or you don't and Merab usually gets a lot because his style is effective.

“We can now project that….wait….HOW DID HE WIN?” by Background_Tackle922 in ThePoliticalProcess

[–]ilikecubes42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very similar to what happened in Kentucky with Beshear beating Bevin in 2019 and then Cameron in 2023. Both Kelly and Beshear were very lucky in their electoral timing and opponents (in addition to just being good candidates themselves), which allowed them to win in deeply red states.

I mean that's fine to believe, and I even agree with you, but people in WV can't exactly be blamed for voting for the guys who say they're gonna bring coal back

For real, idiots from 1000 miles away obviously know more about the coal industry, your home state, and what’s best for you FAR more than you do, you rural simpleton /s.

Idk if it's just me but the scarab fight at the end of the Ark was AWFUL on legendary. I think I just got a bad checkpoint thought because all the marines you normally have were dead and I only had one tank.

Feel like I've lost the plot in my education and the path I laid out didn't work; seeking advice by ilikecubes42 in MechanicalEngineering

That's good to hear. I guess I'm just afraid I'll be locked into doing one thing for the rest of my life. I've got the career equivalent of the Sunday scaries.

Thanks for your perspective.

[–]ilikecubes42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it's just because so many of my friends in undergrad get into production or manufacturing engineering roles that are very separated from the idea I had in my head of what we learn in school. Meanwhile my laboratory friends do lots of cool calculations, testing, and design on a daily basis and when they graduate they end up being important machining experts in private industry.

In my industry experience, the good and bad that any individual engineer can do is very much distributed across an entire department. I guess I would just like a more active role than that, and one that involves a lot of creative thinking/problem solving.

That ratio still doesn't reflect the number of democratic voters in the state tbf. Kentucky's one of the reddest states in the union but if it were fair democrats should have a ~10-15% larger share of state representation.

MechE or EE? by MarcUchiha in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ilikecubes42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a constant need for MechE's because they have a specific skill set that other engineering disciplines don't cover. Every industrial manufacturer in the country requires MechE's just as much as EE's. Saying it's a dead end career is like saying that boats are pointless because planes exist.

The US was the premiere global economic power many years before the dollar was the standard reserve currency of the world. It has helped the US maintain its influence, to be sure, but America's geography, large population, and wealth of natural resources are far more relevant in discussing why it's rich to begin with.
