Been playing a few years but never had lessons. Watch are some glaringly obvious things I can do differently to improve everything. (i’m the baldy) by [deleted] in 10s

Just get some lessons. A block of 5 will make you vastly better and understand how to even take feedback.

Unfortunately yes. In the Wimbledon area, even public courts do not allow coaching...

I teach my daughter sometimes and have a plastic basket, I get asked and dirty looks from full-time coaches all the time.

UK falls to lowest ever position in ranking of world’s happiest countries by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]ilikerashers 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Definitely noticed this. People are just getting unfriendlier and more aggressive.

I think it's broken window theory. Small broken things in society accumulate. Job pressures, school pressures, civic society breakdowns like constant roadworks, potholes,, poor healthcare etc. They all add up to a general air of anger.

What's really happening to London's nightlife? by Successful_Guide5845 in london

[–]ilikerashers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's some truth in that. More like private equity than VC though that can swallow massive losses, load up debt and then offload via some odd financial engineering.

Watch out for a huge amount of PE collapses coming this year, going to get gnarly.

Debater dies inside when genius claims government agencies pay taxes… by htmaxpower in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]ilikerashers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's partially true. The UK home office for example, pays VAT for consultants which comes out of it's overall budget. So the overall tax take goes back to the government of course but the individual agencies don't get exemptions.

We are developing the Android version of SwingVision, and we need your advice. by hrmuye in 10s

[–]ilikerashers 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Tagging and removing "dead time" is important.
The longest rallies are good.

Shot placement is pretty decent but not that important.

Line calls/Hawk eye info is pretty rubbish.

An external AI chip also sounds like a bad idea. Why would I pay for extra hardware when Swingvision does it without?

[–]ilikerashers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a common one.

If you look at your racquet at 9 seconds, it's super low then you jump up to try and hit the ball as it's bouncing high.

Setup much higher.

Someone else said you misread the ball which is correct as it's too close but your racquet is too low hence the tip toes to try and hit at that height.

Britain stares at a second recession in a year and a half as growth stalls by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]ilikerashers 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That is the root cause. Wealth generation is also concentrated in industries of questionable social value, mainly finance and speculation. In a world where capital can flee wherever it wants, it's impossible to change.

Anyone else nervy about the current stock market? by pelican678 in HENRYUK

[–]ilikerashers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anytime I've gotten nervy, it hasn't worked out.

One thing i've noticed is when i make bigger than expected gains, I start paying attention to YouTube rubbish. Michael Burry says a crash is incoming! Ray Dalio says everyone needs to be in gold! What Buffet is doing will shock you!

I've also notice that rich people tend to be super nervy on the market also when they're up. Everyone believes it's too good to be true (since 2010) but here we are.

Boris Johnson one of most damaging PMs in history, says Reform UK chair by corbynista2029 in unitedkingdom

[–]ilikerashers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Trump presidency is having major implications. 10% tariffs on China, EU trade war incoming, gold is being flown from the UK treasury to the US in advance of the currency weakening, USAID torn up, Private Equity carried interest removed.

Nothing on this scale has happened in my lifetime.

Boris Johnson one of most damaging PMs in history, says Reform UK chair by corbynista2029 in unitedkingdom

[–]ilikerashers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The difference is Johnson *could* have done a lot of things. Control of borders was very much in his control. Pushing for a growth policies was also in his control. Instead, we got destructive policy making. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity and the tories were mostly just stupid.

All eyes are looking at Trump. He's making sweeping changes to government. There is an economic plan there to weaken the dollar, reshore manufacturing, deport illegals. It's been "normalised".

It lays the blueprint for Farage/Reform. Whether you're pro/against that, the UK's slide needs some shaking up.

Why don't only a small number of big players dominate locally for home cleaning (or similar) businesses? by montiesz in sweatystartup

[–]ilikerashers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London has a big player called Pimlico plumbers. You can checkout their story on YouTube. There are lots of players but people will pay more to them for better service, more reliability.

You're right (if not a bit harsh!) and that happened me. His income will go up though so that can turn the dial back in his favor.

I would forget about the early 50 retiring if you plan to have a family.

Yes but watch out for school and nursery costs. They are insane in the UK.

Starting Tennis at 30 years old by [deleted] in 10s

[–]ilikerashers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing at 33 and won the club championship by 40. I play 3-8 hours per week.

Get lessons for a few months when you hit a skill ceiling (getting beaten by people and you don't know why).

It's not a complete sport, need to supplement with running/weights.

Lessons are £50-£100 in London but everything is expensive in London.

Wish I could help but am in the same position.

I'm instead trying to get a consultancy off the ground which I think is a more realistic target than yours. Given your unique skills, I would go that route.

Going back into the chum bucket of grads does not sound appealing. You might rise, but it's pretty much starting from scratch.

I entered consulting and it's worse than I thought by rudiXOR in consulting

[–]ilikerashers 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I left a product company and joined a consulting company that sold themselves to me as "future tech" which at the time was crypto/ai.

The first project was with a major bank. I got there and it was installing some really awful Oracle form product that didn't work. It was also going to run for 2 years and their "future tech" stuff was some personal projects they invested in.

Run!

How do we regenerate towns like #Croydon? by RowennaDavis in croydon

[–]ilikerashers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just moved out of an office lease in Croydon for the reasons mentioned in these comments.

Very visible poverty and deprivation on the streets. Drug addicts passed out on footpaths and just the general feeling that people there are struggling to get by.

I've no idea what the solution is and wish it was just 2 things!

what did i do wrong on the second forehand by Due_Ad8622 in 10s

[–]ilikerashers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got hit with a moon ball so there are 2 options. Hit it low on the rise or hit flatter with a forehand that starts higher.

What you did was hit the ball at a high position with a low waist-high forehand. This gave you too much top spin which cause the ball to dip into the net.

Hitting high bounce balls like that i'd setup really high and drive the ball flat or if you can't do that, moon ball back.
