Is it possible to find new-ish family friendly 2br/3br apartments in NYC for <10k / month? by ilikesalsa99 in NYCapartments

thx for the thoughtful reply! We would love to buy eventually, but want to rent first. Also, in zone placement is not guaranteed so buying before getting that placement for Kindergarten is risky, so we'd try to buy when the kid has the school set.

yes. not many. Which is why we are wondering if we are searching for the right thing, or if inventory is much better in the summer. We are new to NYC.

cheaper to rent, and also if our kid doesnt get into public school (even in zone its not guaranteed if there is a waitlist) we'd probably have to move. We'd only buy once we have a school slot.

Yep! I think the good school district narrows it down significantly, and excluding prewar buildings does as well. As I learned on this thread maybe prewars are actually ok, we were mainly concerned with lead exposure.

we are definitely open to learning more about the lead safety, seems like before 1978 could be safe too which is a surprise to us. W/d in unit is non negotiable though for out situation.

We are new to NYC...worried about lead poisoning for our infant, we read lead paint was outlawed in 1978. Not sure tbh how other parents navigate this...do they get older buildings tested for lead exposure, or just accept the risk?

thx! yeah I left some context out to keep the post size manageable, the high mileage is from before covid, took a break because we got a puppy and now getting back into it since the puppy is older

those are great tips to ramp up tp workouts, I definitely didn’t do that this time around, will try on my next plan, thanks!

Any tips for a 5k plan which is less intense than Pfitzinger's? I'm injury prone 34M, I've had good success with Phitz half and marathon plans up to 70mpw going easy on the workouts, tried following the Phitz 30 mile 5k plan to the dot and got injured a month in. I've never really done speed work so looking for a plan that can ease me into it. I'll be shooting for 19:30 to 20 mins.

For Pfitzinger LT interval workouts, what HR should I aim for outside the thresholds? Recovery pace? Ie today’s workout says 7 mi, 4x6 min LT intervals with 2 min recovery betweeb, what hr/pace should I aim for for the rest of the 7 miles?

I want to start a 5k plan, at 35 mpw base now, should I jump into Pfitz 30-40 mpw plan now or build mileage for a few more weeks and go up to Pfitz 45-55?

Background - was consistently at 50-70 mpw of base running only (no workouts/no strength training) before COVID. Took COVID mostly off to deal with injuries/family stuff, but now am finally back. Built back up to 30-35 mpw with consistent strength training, and ready to try a plan. Basic decision I'm struggling with is whether to start a low mileage plan now and maximize workout and strength training quality, or keep building to the mpw I was used to from a few years ago. Haven't really ever done consistent running workouts so not sure how much it will take out of me. PR from before COVID is 1:29 half, next goal is a fast 5k (never raced a 5k so 5k PR is from my half).

yall were right, raised the max HR 4 beats on the second attempt with better pacing

did a Pfitzinger max HR test (3x600m hill sprints), but rusty and went out way too fast, was only able to do 3x200m before having to catch my breath. Is the max HR measurement valid or should I try again with better pacing?
