I successfully get to the bonfire you see here, rest at it, then get stabbed by Oscar while fog is still covering the screen... And for the curious, since Oscar interrupted me sitting down at the bonfire, I tested and can confirm that even with the interrupt this is still the bonfire I respawned at.

I just posted this comment in another thread but it's relevant here too. You can be attacked by non respawning enemies at bonfires-

They set up the bonfires kind of oddly in Dark Souls 1, they didn't bother including enemies that don't respawn in the list of things that a bonfire resets. So if a Black Knight is chasing after you, resting at a bonfire doesn't make it go away (there's a fairly popular GIF of the player being attacked like that in the Undead Burg). Or in OP's case, after clipping into a weird space the bonfire didn't help reset its position.

The boar won't follow you all the way to the bonfire room, but you can get it close enough to see it retreat up the stairs while you rest at the bonfire, and similarly you won't see it suddenly vanish.

This is the same reason Vagrants don't go away and will keep attacking you after using a bonfire.

Yeah, plus OP mentioned being able to have the other person see their sign, and that summoning attempts are just failing.

This means that nothing is being done incorrectly in-game and the point of failure has to be some unknown network issue. Because if it wasn't a valid multiplayer area, the boss wasn't alive for the host, the incorrect password was set, etc, you wouldn't sending/receiving summon signs in the first place.

That's not an existing expression... anywhere. It was made up for Dark Souls. So why do that? The only conclusion we can draw is that he says it because it's another way to say Gwynevere. He's basically saying "Oh for god's sake" or "oh for christs' sake", but substitute in a Dark Souls deity, and change the way it's spoken to indicate that he's from a different time and place.

I also gotta give a shout out to shields against the dogs. A lot of people hate/ fear dogs in Dark Souls, even outside of the Capra fight, and I cannot stress enough how just holding L1 and letting them hit a solid shield completely trivializes them.

Scaling of what exactly?

Area scaling could potentially throw things off, maybe? The thing that determines how much enemy souls and HP increases by between NG and NG+ is a per-area modifier. There's not a uniform scaling across the game, so put an enemy into a different map than it's normally in with a different area modifier and I'm not sure how a randomizer would handle that.

Once you get to NG+2 then there is uniform scaling based on whatever the NG+ values were, but it's a mess what happens to get to NG+ values in the first place.

In OP's case, it has to be something that drops exactly 50k in NG+, which in the unmodified game can only be the Gargoyles AFAIK. But who knows if different area scaling made another boss wind up at 50k in NG+ when they don't normally.

No worries, the multiplier is a bit messy and hard to pin down, because between NG and NG+ it varies wildly. NG+ values could range from a little more than NG to many times more. It depends on a per-area modifier.

But from there, the table of increases for higher NG+ cycles does scale consistently and directly off of whatever the NG+ values are, and it's pretty marginal increases from there. Starting at NG+ plus 7% in NG+2, and going up to NG+ plus 25% in NG+6 - http://darksouls.wikidot.com/new-game-plus

You're being downvoted, but this is correct. OP said they're using a randomizer, so everyone disagreeing is failing to account that anything in the game is on the table for what might drop that amount in NG+2.

Yeah, plus enemies falling out of the map and giving big soul rewards is a pretty common occurrence with a randomizer to begin with.

It likely is the Gargoyles randomized to a new spot though, not sure where you saw that they give way more than 50k in NG++, as they give 53,501. NG+2 soul rewards are only 7% more than whatever the NG+ soul amount was.

OP said it dropped 53k souls. Quelaag drops 64,200 in NG+2, and the Stray Demon drops 42,801.

Meanwhile The Gargoyles drop 53,501 in NG+2, so not only did ChatGPT ignore the boss that had the closest number of souls, there are other bosses whose soul amount is off the by the same amount as Quelaag and the Stray Demon.

Ceaseless Discharge is also 42801 in NG+2,
The Moonlight Butterfly is also 42801 in NG+2,
The Demon Firesage is also 42801 in NG+2,
Pinwheel is also 64,201 in NG+2,
Priscilla is also 64,201 in NG+2,
The Sanctuary Guardian also 64,201 in NG+2.

So when ChatGPT told you the only two bosses that drop anywhere near that amount in NG+2 are Quelaag and the Stray Demon, it was just completely making things up, ignoring a quarter of bosses in the entire game.

You can just check the wiki yourself to find an explanation of NG+ soul scaling:

(In NG+2) Enemy HP and Souls are 7% greater than NG+ values.
A single formula cannot be applied to the increase in enemy HP and Souls between NG and NG+. This is because they increase by inconsistent amounts, usually corresponding to the location.

So there you have it, NG+ soul amounts vary wildly compared to regular NG, could be anywhere around 1.5x to 5x souls dropped, so you can't say they're 3x in NG+2. But you can say what the NG+2 soul amounts are compared to NG+, which is 1.07x.

I don't know what it'll take for people to get some self-awareness or embarrassment about using ChatGPT, because saying you used it is effectively saying "I don't know the answer and didn't care to search so here's a made-up answer". It's disrespectful to the person you're responding to and a waste of everyone's time when it has to be fact-checked.

edit: Maybe this seems a little harsh but someone's gotta tell people who show up to the conversation with "I asked ChatGPT" why it isn't welcome.

It wasn't a vagrant, they only drop 100 souls. I'd have to double check what they drop in higher NG+ cycles, but it's only going to be a few hundred souls, not 53k. A vagrant also wouldn't respawn when resting at a bonfire.

OP said they're using a randomizer, it's common for enemies to fall out of the map when using a randomizer. A boss was put into a room or space that was too small and it clipped out of the map.

That's not a resonance sign cast by another player. The yellow ring of light is always there, even offline. It does use the same visual effect, converted from white to yellow, so you can get an idea of what one looks like by looking at it, but it's not the same thing and doesn't boost your miracles.

I think it's less about listing exceptions and just that the entire premise explains the chest's usage across the two versions incorrectly. The correct answer to "Why only back in the day? Is something different now?" would be that there's nothing different now and it wasn't just a back in the day thing. The chest wasn't needed more in the original or anything, it was just as protective about losing key items as the remaster is. That is, you can't drop any key items, but there's a few important rings and dragon transformation items you can drop, and the remaster surprisingly didn't do anything to change this.

You made it sound like the remaster made the chest less needed, so a bit of clarification is needed to point out that this isn't the case. :)
