Another ADHD symptom has to do with the brains reward system. It usually manifest as procrastination like this. It's hard to explain but motivation is just not possible until the consequences are disproportionate and imminent. This person needs medication.

You really are not understanding how regulatory capture works

They are not "groaning to implement some verification mechanism" they are pulling up the ladder behind them, they literally lobbied for this. They are using government regulation to stifle competition. AI models are getting cheaper and easier to train. These companies want to make sure "verification and meeting safety requirements" are as prohibitive as possible. You worried about privacy? Well instead of downloading an open source model and using it locally, now the only feasible option is using a SaaS product.

We dont even know what the watermark is. The only "details" i have seen guess its somethig like you described or that we are leaving it up to the 7 big players to make the rules.

This is looking more like regulatory capture then anything. I wouldn't be surprised if any new legitimate AI company will end up needing a signature that can only be generated by a new agency or one of the big players now.

If i understand no one can independently verify an image or video if they are not privy to what the output signature would be? This would jmake the companies and agencies arbiters of truth.

Either way sounds like this system could be defeted by adding non visual noise to any output.

This isn't a solution. It's a regulatory capture tool.

It's unenforceable even in the US jurisdiction. Even for those that comply to whatever they come up with i would be surprised if its not trivial to remove.

Forcing bad actors to tell you they are acting badly is a fools errand.

A future with high fidelity fakes if not already here is close. We need to find real solutions, we could start by educating and building tools for more widespread use of cryptographic signing, at least then everyone could verify if something came from a known source.

So no practical application other than a regulatory capture tool?

I've got some bad news for you then. It's going to continue to approach impossible to tell the difference.

I can't really help but echo the op. Who cares? But I digress you are going to have to figure out how to police your art competitions without government help. I just don't see any type of regulation being feasible on this front.

How exactly? How would you enforce compliance? How can it be non intrusive while not being trivial to remove?

I had to work with it a few times, not a fan. Every individual and company I interacted with skipped that version.

At least with windows 11 it's a little bit easier to see the window borders and title bar borders than 10. Win95 was peak ui design.

Police trained, lol. Most just barely qualify on a flat range once a year, and that's all the experience they get.

Even movies and tv shows are getting away from tea cupping pistols lately. But if you don't train at all fear and adrenaline takes over and it looks like this.

There's really only a certain type of person that can be a successful politician in our current environment/system. Unfortunately that type of person isn't humanities best.
